Adoptive Couples -

We understand that most here want to adopt and want to put your best foot forward. It doesnt look good when you reply to an old post or one where the "birthmother" has been outed by a scam. Actually it makes you an even better target for a scammer.

If a post has no replies yet you can assume its new. If it has at least one reply you can judge the post date by the date of the reply. If a birthmother posted that she is 12 weeks pregnant in 2006 - she is no longer pregnant so there is no point in responding.

READ ALL REPLIES - it may take time - but since most of the birthmoms are scams here - they are usually outed within the original thread that they posted.

Rule of thumb - be careful what you post on the internet. If a birthmom posts her email - suggestion to email her vs posting your info here. Just gives the folks from cameroon more ways to find you. Also if a birthmom posts her email address - do a search on it (like in myspace). Its amazing what you will find - some arent women but guys looking to mess with adoptive couples.

This board is the way it is because scammers know that they can come here and scam people time after time. The same scammers usually show up. Lets not continue to give them reasons to keep coming back.

Hi, I think my husband and I are getting scammed. There was this supposed lady with a 5year old girl. We were intrested in adopting her. First she lived in Canada and then she said that she in Africa working. She wants me to send her $5000.00 for her to fly her little girl up here to the USA. And she wouldn't even be coming with her. She said that all she would want is pictures. How would that work if she isn't a US citizen and 2nd of all that is not legal last time I knew. I mean she wants me to send the money to the Cameroon airport through a e-mail address. I dont know can anyone help me. I need someone to talk to about this. This is a terrible thing to do in general but for someone to do this with couples that cant have their own children, that is devastating and so heartless. All we want to have a baby or child to love forever and to complete our family. Thanks, I appreciate if someone could give me suggestions

isnt it terrible how people can do that? Have you been scammed on here too? I mean my husband and I are looking to adopt a baby. We have been going through alot of infertility treatments and no luck. Are there any true people on here that are wanting to adopt their baby out?

It's horrible that there are people who scam on this site. It really shouldnt be ment for that. It makes me almost feel uneasy about posting information about my decisions. I thought i would bump this up again, as i think it is important.

You guys should check out CafeMom.com, too. That site used to be fairly legit, but has turned into a locale for a bunch of scammers. I can't believe the number of people who fall for this stuff and then defend the scammers. There is one going on right now with someone calling themselved Hoping21. She says she is young and carrying twins, then she asserts that someone from the site has threatened her, and now she has decided to keep the babies. There are a few people that do get lucky and match with someone without the assistance of an agency or attorney, but I think it is pretty rare. And, sometimes, you even get taken when you are with an agency or attorney. But, I think the best route is to go with a tried and true agency or attorney. With a good one, you usually have very little money actually at risk and anything you have paid to them is transferable to a new situation if the original falls through.

JustCurious.... are you one of the familes that responded to hopeing21 on cafemom.com? I was and she was really good until the threatening package thing. I thought she may be a scam when she posted that. Do yougo by another name on cafemom?

Just asking,
Darlene

I have seen a flurry of new birthmoms on cafemom - all having very limited profiles or new users all posting that they are seeking families. I did see the Hopeing posts and would bet that she is likely a scam. I wouldnt be surprised if most of the new birthmoms are the same person.

Its hard when you want them to be real so much. Occasionally they are but doesn't seem to be the norm. I know for a fact that one of the birthmom posting sites recently had a match. It wasn't cafemom or this forum though.
