I'm not an adoptive mom. I came on this site back in August, I'm looking to be a surrogate mother. And in a way surrogacy and adoption are similiar. I have met ALOT of wonderful people on this board.

Tina, Thank you!!!

As a Adoptive mom, I know we want to adopt one day but have you ever just felt that there may not be enough of you to go around for another one? I love our Angel and her Birth mom, there will never no words that I can speak to ever say, What a Joy our Angel has brought to our lifes. I hope you success in adoption number two.

Momof1, I agree you will always be Mommy1 and there is no words to tell you, what Joy you bring to this earth, with the work that you are doing. Bless each of you!!! June

Welcome June! So where do you hail from?

June, I have a biological 22 year old son, a 11 year old daughter, and my adopted son is 18 1/2 months old. Some days I wish I had 5 of me!! lol But in my heart (and I thought this through quite a bit) I always wanted a large family. After my first son was born, I tried for years to get pregnant. It took 12 years to make my daughter and then I had a hystorectomy (not sure if I spelled that right) But the one thing I wanted the most was to have two children close in age. Our little one has special needs, but he is much easier than any typical 18 month old. This is my husbands 1st baby ( I remarried after my other hubby passed away when my daughter was 1 ) Anyway, brief book about me. My current husband would also like to have one more.

Yes I also remember what it was like waiting for Michael when we went through the first adoption. We signed on with an agency and were matched in 6 weeks! Our son was born one week later. But the agency is expensive.

Hi June,
I am new to the site as well. I have found it very interesting. We have been looking to adopt. We have been looking for 2 yrs with the DHHS, but have had no luck. Have been thinking of going to an agency, but have found them expensive.

MommyinWaiting - that was a great turn around time. I long for this process to be over. Do you mind telling what agency that you worked with, was is a good experience, and could you mention a cost range? Sorry so many questions, just curious and tired of this process. I filled out an application for an agency, but have not sent it. Any comments are welcome:)

Good morning Gracie, we used A is 4 Adoption in southern California. There fees are $12,500+around $800 for the service provider + birthmom expenses of appx $6000 + $3500 our cost of staying in S. California while the baby was in NICU + appx $3000 to the state of CA for our home study (this is not a regular home study but one performed by the state after placement). When we adopted our son, we were pre matched so she signed a consent form in the hospital and then after leaving the hospital she signed off at the service provider. We had a 30 day waiting period where she can change her mind. We didn't know ahead of time, nor did the agency, nor did the BM that our son has special needs. But we love him as our own, and who's to say if I was his BM he wouldn't have turned out the exact same way. A friend of mind also went through their agency and was placed within 2 months and received her perfectly healthy little angel right before Christmas! They are a good facilitator and they are very caring and practically hold your hand the whole way. The down side- the cost of course. It was very difficult to come up with all the unexpected costs. I forgot to mention attorney fees. Because of our sons special needs, we are spending more on attorney fees because we are doing the unusual which is apply for Adoption Assistance Program otherwise the fees would have been around $2000.

hi. i am new here. i am 26 with a one-year-old daughter. my dr has told me that if i attempt to get pregnant again that it could kill me. how do i go about starting the adoption process? thank you!

Name: mommyinwaiting | Date: Oct 20th, 2006 6:19 PM
Hi mspeachpit :) are you in Northern Cal or Southern Cal? Not that it makes a difference, I am Central Cal. My attorney is Ted Youmans in Santa Ana and he is the NICEST person I have ever met, which is why we are going thru him for our second go round (once we are matched) he is my attorney for my adopted son.

If you are able (although expensive) A is 4 Adoption located in think in Costa Mesa, CA (they are also in Southern Cal) and they are wonderful!!! I was matched quickly and so was a friend of mine that lives here in the central valley also.

Good luck to you :)

hi tina. unfortunately i am in nc. thank you for your response, though. usually nobody will answer my posts.

Ms Peachpit:

First you will need to get a homestudy. Research adoption agencies in your state, and select one to do your homestudy.

You can't adopt without one completed and approved.

Good luck !

Mspeach, Do you have your Homestudy? That is one thing that is a "MUST" before Adoption!!!

Name: mommyinwaiting | Date: Oct 20th, 2006 11:03 PM
Hi June, I didn't have a homestudy, we had a independant adoption and after we received our baby the state is doing our homestudy. I don't know if they do this for all states or just California. I thought it was strange. After we brought the baby home we began our study within I'm thinking 60 days. But that was a year and a half ago so I don't remember the exact.
