Yes my attorney is not a facilitator, however, he is contacted by potential situations that he then presents our profile. He let me know right up front that if we wanted to be matched quickly, this would not be the program for us. I thought we'd give it a try anyway to avoid having to pay a facilitator fee. We have been with him (this is seperate from him doing the filing for our adopted son) since March. Because I want to have another child close in age with my son Michael, we will soon be signing up with a facilitator. I have been researching them as well.
I wasn't sure if it was personal or not, which is why I took my time thinking about a reply. It really is a shame that people scam. And I only contact my attorney when there is a situation that I am seriously interested. Our attorney is a very nice man that we hired to handle our adoption with Michael. He is very excited about this topic and passionately has intense conversations with my husband and I about how we can help network ourselves. The more we are out there, the more opportunities we have that we may get picked by a birthmom. Each birthmom has an idea of what type of family they are looking for. The more viewing the better chance we have :) we even had discussions about incarcerated women who have decided to place (I mentioned this in a previous post). I actually brought the topic up to him when we discussing a facilitator (her fees are $4800) who works with an attorney that goes to the prisons (his fees are $10,000) to present profiles to placing birthmoms. So we began a long discussion of different ways of getting myself out there. He gets situations, just not as many as might be able to outreach too (I am trying to say it so it makes sense and as I am putting it into words this doesn't even sound clear to me, I hope you understand) Plus my husband has company over and it is hard to focus to put my thoughts into words :) ↓
