No, I'm a first time surrogate mother, and I'm talking with a couple right now. I came on here back in Aug, and have learned alot about adoption. In a way surrogacy and adoption are similiar.

It is neat to talk to someone about surrogacy. I have always wanted to ask questions. Hope you don't mind. Ok so to start with I think it is great that you are doing this! Now for the question that you must have been asked a million times, will it be hard to carry a baby and then give it up at the end? My adoption was closed so I couldn't ask my BM that question.

I also had the what to expect when you are expecting and the 1st year by the same company-great books.

Me either and I am not a night owl. My hubby (who drives a truck) is usually home every nite. He had to go to Arkansas to pick up a trailer we just purchased. Usually when the baby goes to bed, I am one minute in bed right after him.

to answer your question: I know whe the baby is born it's going to bitter sweet. How can you not fall in love with a baby that has been with you for 9 months. But on the other hand, I can't wait to see the joy when the couple I work with holds their baby for the first time. I will ALWAYS love the baby I carry, But i know going into this, it's not mine. That is why I insist on going to counseling during the pregnancy. I want to talk to someone about my feelings.

if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them (to the best of my knowledge)

You are doing a really nice thing for people who can't have their own kids. Will they use your egg or hers (the other couple you are talking to)? You know, you don't have to answer that is probably to personal, but this may be the only opportunity I have to ask such open questions and I am curious. Do you work? I work out of the house I run the office end of the truck business. It is great, I can work in my jammies or even have a beer (not more than one tho) at my desk lol.

How old are you? I don't ask a question I wouldn't answer myself, I am 41.

The couple I'm talking with need a GS (gestational surrogate). I will be implanting their embryos in my utures(sp). Basically... it's their bun in my oven ! hehe
I'm self employed, and I work out of my home. I chose to do that I can be home with my son.

I just turned 27

like I said, ask away. It's kinda nice that it's just us in this conversation. Makes it easier to answer questions.

how many embryos will they implant? Do you get paid for this or are you doing it for another reason? Does it hurt when they implant the embyos in you?

do you have to pass health tests and things like that? what does your family think?

it is nice to chat like this. Being an at home mom too I don't have a whole lot of people that I know anymore. When I quit work, to stay at home only to work, it wasn't in the loop anymore it just isn't the same. Honestly I work more now than I did working a full time job :)

oops I meant "I" wasn't in the loop, guess it is getting late maybe I will be able to sleep after all.

we have agreed to implant 3 embroys at a time. odds are if might not even take the first time. I will not carry more than triplets. I'm willing to try as many times as the family I'm working with wishes.
Yes I will be compesated for this. I'm in this for money, and I wish I could do this free of charge. But my body will be going through alot during pregnancy.
I have to take 6 weeks of shots to prepare my body for pregnancy. So I know that I am not looking forward to the shots, but it's something that has to be done. As for when they impant the embroy's. I have been told that it's uncomfortable, but not painful. I have already had a full exam with my doctor, and I have been given a clean bill of health.
I have the full support of my family and friends. Everyone can't wait till the day I can call and say I'm pregnant.

i just realized I anwered the questions in a formal way, sorry about that. I just answered them one by one

It is ok, you answered perfectly! Sorry about the shots yuck. I think you definitly are entitled to compensation. We talked about having a family member do the same thing you are doing. I even asked her if she'd like to have my baby. We laughed, but for health reasons it wasn't meant to be. I did check into it a little but due to costs and no guarantees we decided adoption was a better option for us. Still it would be neat to look down at my little person and see my hubby's eyes my nose (no what I mean) again thought about it the second time too. But we just bought a new house and our payments are now brace yourself I need oxygen just thinking about it $4300 a month!

wow.... I thought mine was high at $1500... for that amount I hope you living in a palace... LOL

do you have to go in and out of this to have a new message pop up? or am I not doing something right?

Name: momof1 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 6:32 AM
Either was you go their is a risk. But I think that someone would have more of a chance having a baby via surrogacy than adoption. With surrogacy, if the pregancy is healthy, and a baby is born, the baby is yours. With adoption the birthmom can always change her mind

Yes I live in Tina's castle, 5 bedroom, 3 bath, swim pool, 3 car garage. I keep waiting for the maid fairy and cook fairy to show up but they must be working elsewhere cuz I have to clean it all too. Not the pool, we have a service for that (yeah). I used to dream that I would have this handsome pool boy service the pool, unfortunately he isn't anything like that lol

Name: momof1 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 6:32 AM
yes you do have to go and hit the refresh button. THis is a message board, not a chat room

Name: momof1 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 6:33 AM
LOL... I have an inground pool, but I learned to do all the upkeep and maintance myself.

Name: momof1 | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 6:34 AM
i guess that just proves the cost of living in NC via CA. I have a 3 bedroom, 2 bath...2400 sq ft house. I have an inground pool, and a 3 car garage. And I'm on 1/2 acre lot. NC is ALLOT less expensive

Good point about the adoption we were very nervous the first 30 days. I didn't realize that (can't think of the word I am looking for) the planting of the embryos took that well. What are the percentages? (Sorry that info is important to my accountant mind)

Name: mommyinwaiting | Date: Oct 23rd, 2006 6:37 AM
1/2 an acre! now i am jealous. my lot is 6300 sq ft, my house is 3150 sq ft. Two story. 2400 for a 3/2 is a very nice size house!

Nothing in like is guarenteed. Only God knows what will happen in life. But with the technology these days, the percentages are pretty good. But there are some factors to consider. THe age of the mom and the quality of her eggs, and the fathers sperm. ALso the quality of the embryos
