Hi...I have a 13 yr old son with autism. He has come a long way and is doing great! However, he still has a long way to go :( He desperately needs braces, but, I can't find an orthodontist in my area that feels comfortable treating him. He moves around too much...doesn't sit so still. Since they work with wires, pliers, glue, etc. they're not comfortable with the situation. He's sooo adorable, but, his teeth and bite are awful!! I feel so bad for him. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? Anyone out there live in Monmouth County, NJ that knows of a good Orthodontist that can help? Thanks!

He is at an age that he would understand the need of the visit. My experience with an orthodontist was the first session they get the tee mold and tell you the process. They are not done in a couple of visits. You can take him with you to the consultation and plan a bit at a time section by section. Mine preferred doing the uppers first wait then the lowers. The most amount of time was the glue drying. You can also give him something that will relax him during the visit or even bring a distraction alon, ipod, electronic game etc. I plan any drs visits medication wise. End of day, forget it! first thing in the morning, mid afternoon etc. After all you and your insurance are paying for his services.
