Hello All, I have a 4 1/2 YOF with autism. Feeding is a big problem with our daughter. Currently she is on pediasure 3X a day. She eats very little troughtout the day (small amounts of fruit she eats fine, she will bite PB @ marshmellow and cheese sandwiches but won't swallow. She won't take anything else. She's getting older and the feeding worry's me a great deal. Anyone have any suggestions to get her to eat.

She might have some texture issues. My son used to "pocket" food in his mouth. He would take bites but just collect the food in his cheeks; we were always afraid he would choke. Does she drink a lot of milk? I'm asking because a lot of kids with autism are also allergic to milk and gluten products. If she is drinking a lot of milk she may be filling up on that and that may cause her to not eat. It may be something else but just a place to start anyhow. If you need any help please email me at [email protected] Good Luck!

She definetely has some texture issues. She gags when we try to intoduce new foods. As for the milk, our doc has prescribed Pedisure for her which we have to give her 3x a day for the nutrients she needs. We do not give any other milk other than this. We also give her multivitamins every day with juice.

Well, I definitely am not a doctor but have you ever drank pediasure? It's very filling. I don't know if this would work for your daughter but for my son we found that soft foods worked well. He really liked instant mashed potatoes with sea salt; no butter or milk. Once he would eat those then we started adding to them a little...like i baked chicken and then put it in a cuisinart. You wouldn't think that you could make chicken the consistency of potatoes but ya can. I would whip those things in the cuisinart until they were mush and then add just a little to the mashed to potatoes and gradually he started eating more and more. And once we put him on a GFCF diet, which is hard at first, he started opening up to all sorts of foods. All our kids are different though and it may not work for her....if I can help you in any way please let me know. Good Luck!
