Hi Slim, I live in Somerset and im having the same troubles with my two year old. The NHS are so frustrating, i raised my concerns of autism to my doc in November, he could not make referal right away because my son had been suffering with reoccuring ear infections (or so they thought!) and as he was waiting for a hearing test they had to wait for that first. Well that was fine and the referal went in in January, My appointment to see a pead is 15th April and im stuck in that horrible place of just not knowing and having to wait and wait!! My son sounds as just like yours, it breaks my heart that i cannot comfort my son when he is pain, but he just refuses to be touched, everything is on his terms, i can hug him when he is happy. he does not like any other people coming in to the house and will just wave goodbye to them until they eventually go. He does not talk, will only turn to his name when he chooses to. He flaps his hands when he is excited. He is very limited in what he will eat, and will only eat on the go, i have to leave his 5 types of food that he will eat on the table most of the day just so i can get him to eat. Im sorry i cant offer you any advice at this stage, just someone to talk to. If your life is anything like mine, the days are so long, emotionally and mentally draining, hard work and lonely. My son communicates by dragging me around all day and putting my hand on the things he wants, he wont pick them up himself. Sorry i think this reply is a bit all over the place, just got so much that i want to say! I hope you get an appointment soon, but when i go for mine i will ask about the comforting part and let you know what they say. Tina ↑ |

Colin, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. My son is 18 months old and they are in the process of diagnosing him so I understand the frustration and toll that it can take on you. Key is to just keep pushing, I know in the US the school districts are required to test children suspected with autism as early as 18 months, I have been doing alot if research on autism to better prepare myself for what our future holds and I came across this website. I hope that it helps you. http://www.ambitiousaboutautism.org.uk/page /about_autism/resources/know_rights.cfm Good luck with everything, and the fact that you are seeking out help speaks volumes about how much you love and care for your sons well being. ↑ |

He is so young. It is very good for you to find his difference. Go to TACA ( talk about cure autism) web site. To learn a lot of them. Even he just delay, do cod oil, gluten free, diary free for him. Nothing hurt. Also teach him using picture. ↑ |
