Autism Spectrum Disorder is exactly that. A spectrum of different types of autism ranging from very high functioning to the extreme opposite. Just because your child isn't neccessarily demonstrating the stereotypical autistic behaviors doesn't mean he's not autistic and obviously, if you've had him tested and they siad that's what he has, then I would listen to the medical experts, not the family memebers. You can always go get a second opinion of course, but what will your family say after they agree with the first doctor? It's not about them, it's about your child. My son was also diagnosed at 3yrs old and he is high functioning. I myself didn't believe he was when my family was telling me that he was different. I had him tested by SEVERAL professionals....they all told me the same thing, "Your child has autsim." I attended a couple of workshops on it and read as much as I could get a hold of about the disorder. This was a great benefit to us because I was able to work with my child on things that he was struggling with before he got into school. PLEASE....don't listen to other people. Discover on your own and ALWAYS ask lots of questions... ↑ |
