That is perfectiy fine as long as it's with a drs permission. My kids were all 9-10 lbs at birth and there was no way they were waiting until they were 4 months to eat!! I started then at about 6-8 months. As a neonatal nurse we used to put rice cereal in formula or breast milk for premies if they had problems like reflux to make it heavier for them. It is fine. ↑ |
Okay, thanx I just wanted to know. After I wrote this I read some of the other womens comments and did infact see that alot had written about feeding their babies rice cereal at about the same age. Thanks again for your responce. ↑ |
I would be very wary about giving a baby cereal at 2 months. When my son was about 4 months I introduced cereal to him and he became extremely constipated. My dr, who did not know much about breast feeding told me to give him prune juice and stop breast feeding! I switched drs and found out that was not good. I actually had given him cereal too young and his digestive system was not ready. When my son was older, (younger than two) he had persistent diarhea. This I found out was a result of feeding him solid food when his disgetive system was not ready for it. Poor guy! Please hold off as long as you can. Another thing, babies go through growth spurts when they are about 2 months old, you may be feeling that your baby is hungry and not getting enough to eat, so you will be tempted to give him cereal. If you can just be patient for about three days, feedings will go back to normal. If your baby wants to do nothing but nurse, this may be a sign of a growth spurt. Just give that little one three or four days before you are tempted to give the cereal. And find a doctor who is knowledgeable in this and supports your decision to only breastfeed for as long as you can. I will check back if you have any more questions. I have breastfed four, have been through it all and feel like an expert!! ↑ |
My oldest's grandmother gave my daughter rice cereal starting at 2 months against my wishes.
I too would strongly not recommend it. I have heard more 'cons' then 'pros' about such practice.
However I do not claim to be a doctor, and if the peditrician recommended it, maybe there is something more to the story then we know about. Then again, maybe the peditrician is older and not a big fan of up to date knowledge. I've come across a few of those too. ↑ |
Deb,
Trust your feelings.
If you have breastfed 4 then you ARE an expert! lol ↑ |
Thank you guys, this is actually for my friend who lives next store. I'm only 19 weeks pregnant with my first and have been a reading fool. I have so many books....what to expect when.....
and what to expect the 1st year....breastfeeding....and so on.
If it were my baby I'd just get off my butt and feed her more. I have to try and find a nice approach to bringing up the subject with her again though. ↑ |
