I think I may have a clogged milk duct, the whole top of my breast is hard and tender, it hurts so bad. I am trying to massage it and keep the heating pad on it as well as nurse frequently but my son does not seem to want to nurse on that side, I guess because the flow is less?? Although he has never really liked that side anyway, and because of that I am a little lopsided. He is almost six months and just within the last few days we have been experimenting with cereal, not sure if thats what caused it... I have been trying to pump that side but I have never had good luck pumping and I can only get a few drops. I am not ready to give up nursing but I was just wondering how long does it take for this to clear up?

Somethings that helped me to relieve a clogged duct: I sat in a bath tub with warm water running over me, I started just below the collar bone GENTLY pushing down toward my breast, that really seemed to help. I also, would feel around to find the particular duct, and would kind of lightly "pinch" or wiggle it around, that also helped to relieve it a little. These are just some things I did, I am not an expert, but I know what it was like to have clogged milk duct and I know how painful it can be! So I thought I would share what worked for me!

I pretty much did the same thing as "raam" . I would feel around and try to find the milk duct that was clogged. Then, I would pinch to all sides of it and kind of roll it around while in a warm shower. I would also put the babies (I nursed 3 of them for at least a year) on that side and massage down as they tried to nurse too. Once, I also tried ice and then heat and then ice and then... and tried to massage it out.

Oooh I just had one of those about 2 weeks ago. Mine was so painful it hurt to pick up my baby. It sounds like you're doing the right thing. What I did was nurse my baby as much as I could on that one breast and I massaged it the whole time, also I massaged it even when I wasn't nursing and I did the heat thing as well. Mine went away within a day or two. I hope yours is gone by now! I know that pain and it sucks! I also had 400mg ibprofen left from my delivery so I took one of those to help relieve the pain.

I think mine has been blocked for 3 days. Its kills with just the weight of his head laying on me and God forbid he nurses on that side it feels like someone kicked the bottom of my boob with a steeltoed boot. I have tryed the heating pad and also the frozen pack you get with your hospital diaper bag and nothing is working. I can pump on that side but it just feels like underneath my boob is getting more and more backed up. Is it possible to have a infection in my boob????

armanismom: I was able to unblock my mine within a day or 2 by massaging, squeezing, and basically manhandling the fool out of it, big ouchie, also position baby's chin pointing toward the clog and pump for 5-10 mins after he's done, when I spoke to my LC she told me I would know when it was infected, I would have a fever, feel like I was getting the flu and my breast may have red streaks and feel hot to the touch, she also told me to fill a bowl of very warm water and lean over with my entire breast submerged in it, I didn't do that though, I knew it would send my hubby into hysterics, also try nursing on all fours (with your baby propped up by pillows) with your breasts haningfreely down, just don't let anyone see you LOL

LOL, I tried that too when I had a plugged duct, the nursing on all four's. I was lucky enough to have the whole day by myself though with just the baby. I really think the she should submerge her breast in the warm water and soak, then when you are done you are to nurse your baby!
