Ok...i had my 1st appt at 9am......did the paperwork thing blah blah blah.......went in to have my vitals done...yeah....my blood pressure was 160/100, i was VERY nervous as i usually get before a doc appt...i mean my heart was pounding.....well the nurse kinda freaked and got the doc, he said to retake it in 15 minutes....SOO the nurse explained all my pregnancy crap to me and all that good stuff.....rechecked my blood pressure and it was 130/90.....they wanted me to stay in the office for a while and have another appt in the afternoon, but instead im going back at 8:30 tomorrow morning, theyre gonna monitor my blood pressure and do an ultrasound to make sure the baby is ok................has anyone dealt with hypertension during your pregnancy?? if so, what did they do for it and how high did your bp get?? im kinda nervous about all this, i had a cousin die from HELLP syndrome while she was pregnant so im a bit freaked out....Also, do any of you get real nervous and your bp goes high, then when you chill out a bit it goes down?? i dunno if thats normal or what, like i said i get very nervous before appt's so i think that had alot to do with it....

I have the opposite problem, so I don't know anything about igh blood pressure. Everytime a new nurse takes my bp they always call a doc and make me stand. They can't believe I am not dizzy LOL It was brutal when I was induced with my son because I had a new nurse every shift change and they would have a little spaz. Mine is always around 90/60... even at the end of my pregnancy.

It probably had a lot to do with you being nervous, you need to chill girl!! but Hypertension during pregnancy just means he is probably going to assign you to bedrest and you will have the baby much earlier then ususal because you are not allowed to give birth on your own. :0( sorry to hear your first appt sucked davina but hopefully the next will be better and you wont have hypertension. Just chill and try to do as little as possible for the next couple of hours ( well the rest of the night ) and I know easier said then done but CHILL OUT BEFORE YOU GO TO THE DOC :0) keep me updated.

Oh and remember I passed out in Walmart with Emma when I was 4 months pregnant because my blood pressure hit the floor. When I asked my doc why that happened he just shrugged his shoulders and said hey it happens.

i had high blood pressure too throughout my pregnancy.. they even sent me for an ECG to make sure its all ok.. which it was. the doctor said some woman just have higher blood pressure that usual during pregnancy - pregnancy does funny things to our bodies.
i too was always nervous at appointments... and thought my high blood pressure was due to that.

Hey Davina, How was your blood pressure this morning? I hope it was back to normal. With my first pregnancy I had hypertension during the second half of my pregnancy, but I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. Hopefully at your next appointment you won't be as nervous. Try to get there a few minutes early and walk around outside for a couple minutes or go in and read a magazine to help keep your mind off of the actualy appointment. I hope you are doing okay.

I have my first prenatal appt tomorrow at 10:30am. Sooo nervous as I hate doctors offices and I am so uncomfortable because it's a guy and no women doctors will take new patients. Is it as bad as everyone says?

hellooo....my appt yesterday went well lol just as nikki said i do have my u/s pics up on my myspace! my BP was 152/86 then the 2nd time i forgot what it was, my doc decided shes not gonna put me on meds just yet...they wanna watch it and see if it goes up sooooo now i have to go every 2 weeks instead of 4....and buninoven-no its not bad at all, i mean im like you i HATE doc offices and i get very very nervous when i go and i dont know WHY i do that to myself because its not bad! The ist appt they usually do the exam and just talk to you then they send ya for bloodwork, doesnt take long and the 1st appt is for the most part the longest appt youll have! And dont feel bad about it being a guy, i mean i get a little weird too when i have a male doc examining me but you just have to keep telling yourself they do this all the time! and you dont have anything they havent seen before haha....plus theres a female nurse in the room with too (or at least there is supposed to be)

Davina thank you so much. It's funny because you tell yourself these things but it always makes you feel better to hear it from someone else. I'll come back tomorrow to let you all know how it went! BTW when is everyone due? I'm new here so would like to meet a DD buddie. I'm due May 25th, 2008

lol no problem! Im the type of person that always expects the worse so i tend to work my nerves waaay too much over everything! Ive already been through all of this once when i was pregnant with my daughter but i still get nervous even though i pretty much already know what to expect.......Im due may 13th, 2008!! we're not too far apart there!

I had my blood pressure taken at my appointment the other day and it was high and they were worried, they did it again 10 mins later and it was okay. It is natural for normal healthy people pregnant or not to have a high reading, it is a stressful event.

Hope it got better, and DON'T STRESS!
