while i was at the hospital today a woman came in who knew that she was pregnant but had just never felt the need to see a doctor or anything and was starting to contract and bleed...they do an ultra sound to find out how far along she is...she was 28 weeks and pregnant with twins! she was 4cm dilated and 80 percent effaced and contracting and bleeding even after being given mag.....now this just pisses me off! with all of the resources out there why could just not go to doctor when you are pregnant? now these poor babies will probably not make it just because this woman was stupid and lazy!
would any of you ever consider NOT getting prenatal care?

im sure the babies, although premie will be fine.. most women who have twins do deliver early and some extremely. but they do need to monitor them b.c they could be still born.. idiocy in my opinion.. its one thing to not be able to afford one, but its another to just brush it off anyways.

Well at 28-weeks, although the little babies will need weeks of intensive care have an excellent chance of survival now. Their little lungs are already capable of breathing air, while the pulmonary vascular system can provide sufficient gas exchange, and the central nervous system can generally regulate rhythmic breathing as well as their basal body temperature.

But totally get your point! I'm 28-weeks, and I've been to the doctor for 3 emergency appointments, as well as my standard antenatal appointments!

This makes me sick. We've been trying for 4 yrs, gone through 3 In Vitros, and finally looks like I'm pregnant with twins! Seriously, I don't understand people like this. Also, my one question for God, okay there will be more when I get to Heaven, is why can crazy people have children, and those who would really be great parents have to struggle and sometimes never become parents!!!!! I'll never get it.

my vitamins used to make me sick so i started taking them at night with a snack and no more sickness...you might also try talking to your doctor because there are a million different kinds that they could give you and chances are they wont all make you sick

I considered it!

When I found out I was pregnant Christmas things were in roll and my Dad died two weeks after and I really didn't want to get out of bed and face reality.

Even now I kinda wish I left it longer than I did, but Paddy forced me to go.

I remember the first thing the nurse said to me when I saw her was: You're the girl who's Dad passed away aren't ya. Oh that's terrible.

My Dad and I always shared the same doctors and stuff.

So yeah.

And yesterday they wanted to take blood...and I asked them not to because last time they needled me three times and when they couldn't get it the kept trying to move the needle around in my veins and I came up with massive bruises and everything. The woman said that if I was a afraid of a needle I wasn't going to be able to give birth.

THen she asked if it was my first...I told her it was...And that everyone has to go through it once to learn from it. But oh no...I'm pathetic for not wanting a needle.

Needless to say I ended up bawlin' AND gettin' a needle :(

I do wish that all those visits weren't necessary...

I would definitely leave it longer next time. I felt so harrassed!

Lola,
I despise needles too; I think it's safe to say that noone actually likes them, and everyone would rather not get them. I also get bad bruising after they take blood. I've had my blood taken 4 times this year so far due to my pregnancy.

I also despise having to walk around the antenatal clinic or the doctor's surgery with a sample of my own urine in my purse; it's also a little embarrassing having to pass it to my doctor for testing.

And I hate Internals. I've only had one done so far in this pregnancy, but it was as invasive and as painful as I thought it would be.

Noone looks forward to labour, the pain, the needles, the Internals, the exposure. But it's all up ahead for all us pregnant ladies!

Antenatal care isn't always pleasant, and in some cases, it's not even necessary; some women have gone right the way through pregnancy without going to their doctor once, and still delivered healthy babies. But it's not worth the risk. Your urine needs to be tested regularly for protein and sugar, your blood needs to be tested for antibodies, diseases, glucose, immunity, confirmation of blood group, infection, Iron levels.

Despite your loss (and I am so sorry to hear about that) how could you not go to your doctor asap next time?

Thankfully I haven't had an internal. I imagine that would be quite a horror scene for me.

I just find that most of the nurses that look after us pregnant ladies in my area are really pushy and don't care if they offend you or make you feel like crap.

I don't mind goin' for visits as a rule. When the doctors get around to see me, they're absolutely fine and they don't push the boundaries. They just do their job and let ya get on with things.

I love seeing the scans and hearing that she's doin' fine...But the harrassment is a real put off.

When it comes down to it I know that the next time I get pregnant I'm going to try not to think about it...And not do a test until I know for sure that I am pregnant...And then leave it a couple of weeks again.

As far as I'm concerned...the less visits at the start of pregnancy...the better.

If the child gets into any kind of trouble...there's not much they can do.

I dunno...Just a bad experience I suppose.

Maybe I'm crazy!

kkarli, they tried me on all sorts of vitamins, even childrens, and they all made me severely sick. i took folic acid most days but some days forgot, my son is very healthy though. even with my iron defiencency, but we should all at least try.
