Hi, Girls!

Just wanted to clarify that *yes*, the dollar store brand of pregnancy tests *do* work just as well as any others and will cost you a *lot* less money! Each brand, tests for a specific level of hormones and they vary greatly by brand. Generally, the cheaper the brand, the smaller the amount of hormone they will test positive for. One of the best brands to buy is actually the Equate Brand from Wal-mart! They are only about 3-4$ for one test and they will read positive for 25+ levels of the pregnancy hormone, where as EPT and some of them will not register a positive until 40+. You can go to many pregnancy websights and print of a page of all the pregnancy test brands and at what level they will regisiter a positive.

To: Jeni... The reason it did not read positive for your friend who is seven months pregnant, is that the pregnancy hormone begins showing up in your body when you are first pregnant and gets higher very quickly in the next couple of weeks. Somewhere after 12,000-15,000, this hormone tops off and is no longer in your system. This will usually be about 3-4 months, I think it is. By the time someone is 7 months pregnant, there is generally no pregnancy hormone left in a woman's body to make the test turn positive.

Hope this helps!!! Save money... continue to use the Dollar Store or any cheepie brand! They *do* work!!

LOL! No, my husband and I have just been trying to concieve for almost four years, so I know everything about pregnancy, conception, etc. that there is out there... except how to actually *get* pregnant, it seems! LOL - I love to do research and in our quest for a baby that we have wanted for so very long, I have learned much and thot it would be helpful to pass the info along!

The pregnancy hormone stays in your system the WHOLE pregnancy. Some women don't spill the hormone into their urine. Other women have a test that isn't accurate...that's why they have a "control" line to compare it to that will tell you if the test worked properly.

Ahh, how nice it would be if we all used a little bit more tact in our responses. Maybe then valid points would be taken and appreciated as opposed to us being felt like we have been pushed into a defensive corner and making an automatic fighting response that normally would not be our 'm.o.'

And as a sidenoter, don't ya'll love how we use these silly "Dear Abby" names to post here? lol (with the exception of the kind Mrs. Finney, to whom may I make the comment on how very nice it is to see the title Mrs. used, absolutely love it.)

All said in good humor.

This wasn't a snooty comment: The pregnancy hormone stays in your system the WHOLE pregnancy. Some women don't spill the hormone into their urine. Other women have a test that isn't accurate...that's why they have a "control" line to compare it to that will tell you if the test worked properly.

However, Mrs. Finney's comment was snooty: to the medical profession.... no need to get snooty... you don't even know that you are not a profession, but a professionAL... duh...

So, I can see why the Medical Professional gave you this snooty comment in return Mrs. Finney: Have you ever thought that it ran out of room...and I wasn't being snooty. I just get so tired of seeing FALSE information on this site and people that believe it instead of going to their doctor.

So, to Mrs Finney...I don't think "someone else" was talking to you. I have seen other posts by "Medical Professional" and she has never been rude until your little comment!

The following "cut and paste" is from this online web sight and can be found on *many* others, which all say the exact same thing! I apologize, as I *did* word it incorrectly, as it is the *serum* that reaches it's max at between the second-third month and then decreases in the third trimester and therefore, you generally are not able to get a positive result on a pregnancy test after that time!

And to the Medical Profession.. There is no need to be so haughty about my trying to reassure these gals that the "cheapie" brands *do*, in general, work and that most of the time the "cheapies" are actually more sensitive than the expensive ones! That, is indeed, a fact that you can find on almost any pregnancy websight!! Is it possibly the fact that many of us are already aware of, that all you high paid "profession..'s" are just wanting everyone to come to the clinc so you can make another fast $, doing the exact same test that a $1.00 test can do???!!! We have been working extensively for almost four years with a wonderful OB GYN and he has explained *all* of these things to us many, many times!

This is the websight link:

Her
e
is the info from that page: (cut and pasted!)

An hCG level of less than 5 mIU/ml generally indicates you are not pregnant.
Week from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) Amount of hCG in mIU/ml
3 5 - 50
4 4 - 426
5 19 - 7,340
6 1,080 - 56,500
7 - 8 7,650 - 229,000
9 - 12 25,700 - 288,000
13 - 16 13,300 - 254,000
17 - 24 4,060 - 165,400
25 - 40 3,640 - 117,000
Pregnant women usually attain serum concentrations of 10 to 50 mIU in the week following conception. A max is reached by the second to third month, followed by a decrease in the third trimester.

Again, I apologize that I had the information a little off, it is the *serum* that reaches it's max, but this would still more than likely apply to Jeni's friend's situation.

I guess my only comment is that the people on here should know not to take the advice on this forum to seriously. None of us can prove that we are doctors or of the medical profession. These are only our opinions. You never know who you are talking to. Always consult your family dr. before doing anything.

Dear Abby.. try reading everything before you comment.... this was snooty:
"If you didn't have the hormone during the whole pregnancy...you would lose the baby...DUH................. "

and this is what I was saying thanks to:

"with the exception of the kind Mrs. Finney, to whom may I make the comment on how very nice it is to see the title Mrs. used, absolutely love it"

ok miss smarty pants???

Name: Medical Professional | Date: May 11th, 2006 8:25 PM
I didn't make the comment, "If you didn't have the hormone during the whole pregnancy...you would lose the baby...DUH................. " That sounds like a stupid teenager playing around, not a Medical PROFESSIONAL. I don't have that type of bedside nor internet manner with people looking for information.

So, I hope you can afford an apology to me. The only comment I placed was the one about the hormone staying for the whole pregnancy and the one about me being a professionAL since I ran out of room and now this one. I had not made ANY rude comment until Mrs. Finney made hers, and I apologize for mine. I didn't understand why she got rude with me because I didn't see the "Duh" comment that I quoted above.

a BUMP is when you comment on a post just to push it to the top of the page so it can be noticed. most people don't participate in threads that aren't on the top of the page.
