I started bleeding on sunday. I called my doctor and since it was sunday anotherdoc was on call. He said there was nothing they could do if I was iscarrying but if my cramping got worse or if I was bleeding really heavy then I could go to the ER if I wanted. But otherwise he wanted me to go get a blood test on monday to check my numbers. I did and they were down quite a bit so the nurse said she was sorry. She asked if there was anything I wanted to see the doctor for or if I just wanted to come in if there were problems. Am I crazy or if I had a miscarriage shouldn't I have been see by a doctor? How will they know if everything comes out?

I know it seems wrong but there is not anything they can do to stop the miscarriage that is why that don't bother to see you until afterwards to be sure all is clean. how far are/were you? I am so sorry to hear that.

In severe cases you would be given a D&C on the spot or a little later. Sometimes your body will just flush itself out and it is over with. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse that could be an infection. I am really sorry to hear that you have miscarried and I wish you luck in the future.

Thanks.
I was 6 -7 weeks.
I just don't like to feel helpless. That's a terrible feeling concerning a baby.

It is not standard practice to give a D&C to everyone who miscarries. In most cases it is not necessary. Depending first on how far along you are and second is the risk of infection. If the risk is greater then the D&C will be preformed. I was 7 weeks pregnant and was given one because I am rh neg. which was the reason I miscarried. So your doctors judgement is ok. Now this does not mean something couldn't develop so just keep an eye on it.

I have been an OB nurse for 10 years and I have to say WOW - it is not standard practice for the nurse to interpret lab values. The doctor is supposed to explain it all to you and discuss your options. This sounds completely wrong. I would call that office immediately and demand an explaination from that doctor. Abandoning you when you needed him/her the most! This is a terrible thing for any woman to have to endure, but then to also deal with heartless and uncaring clinicians, that is uncalled for.

You should have been given some kind of information as to what would happen next. They shouldn't have left you like this!

Get back onto them and get your questions answered. The nurse sounds like she needs some education or a new job!

Casezille, first of all I am sorry for your loss. I lost my first pregnancy at 6 weeks and my story is very similar to yours. I never saw a doctor, I was bleeding, had some bloodwork and my number was very low, the nurse told me I was probably miscarrying, I had to have bloodwork done several times, until my number was [5. Not once did I see or speak to the doctor, it was not necessary. Lots of people want to give you advice but unless they have been in your shoes take it with a grain of salt.
