I have no clue what brand of diapers to start buying and what size. I've only bought one pask so far of Huggies newborn b/c they have a cut out for the umbilical cord, but I'd like something cheaper when she's in size 1. How are Luvs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I've never used Luv's myself but heard they are good. I like Huggies the best and for newborn...Pampers Swadlers. I was good and ready for Ethanael. Sign up with Huggies and Pampers and whoever else online and you get extra coupons in the mail. Usually Sunday's paper has pampers or huggies coupons. If you have a Walgreens nearby, their regular brand and supreme are both great and cheap.

I was wondering the same thing... is there anywhere you can buy diapers wholesale, like Costco? Or maybe online? I'd rather buy 200 or 300 diapers at once and save a bunch then get those insanely expensive little packs.

You can buy them by the box for about 19 bucks at Walmart. But keep tabs on sales at grocery stores and department stores like Target. Our Food Lion just had a sale on their boxes for 17.99, plus I had a $2 coupon and a $3 coupon that the store prints out with your receipt. I buy the size 4 Pampers, so that is 92 diapers for $13, a bargain. I bought 4 boxes! Costco sells diapers but it doesn't seem like there is that much of a difference. You can buy them online, but beware of shipping costs. Break it down to what you would pay per diaper. I've done that and it's usually only a few cents more per diaper for the name brand if you don't have coupons. I tried my little guy in cheapie diapers and he just turned red, not worth the few extra cents to me. I only like the Walgreens brand cheapies.

I am just going for the huggies. There have been sales on so we have bought some newborns and size ones already. I asked this question about diapers last week. We don't have any walgreens here and it's very hard to find luvs...i don't like the smell of pampers (are they scented?) so that basically leaves the supermarket brands or huggies.

I am completely dedicated to LUVS. Huggies always leaked or gave rashes, pampers are good but expensive, and the generic (parents choice, white cloud) always leaked... go with luvs they are great.

You're so right mommyagain. Just like with clothes, it's amazing how fast they grow out of diapers! I have tried several brands and I use Pampers Swaddlers. I love them. They are very soft and stretchy. They do have a powdery smell, so if you don't like that don't pick that brand. Costco does have their own brand, but at our store (in Tucson) they only have size 3 and bigger. Another nice thing about Pampers is they have in between sizes like 1/2. I used to use those during the day and size 2 at night because when your baby starts sleeping for 10 hours at night, they need a little more diaper! She's "wet" the bed a few times already! CVS frequently has Pampers for $7.99, and I have tons of those $1.50 coupons, so I usually buy there.

I just did a little research and found 208 size 1Luvs diapers for $32. That's the cheapest I could find.

The same number of Pampers Swaddlers was $72.

How long is it usually until a baby goes from size 1 to 2?

Like I said Nicole... I really cant remember a time frame just that you dont want anymore than 1 box or 1 jumbo pack... If I was you I would buy a few normal size packs of size 1 then that way you can exchange them if baby is chunking up a little faster than you thought.

I had 4 boxes of size 1 and used them all. 2 Pampers and 2 huggies. So it depends on the weight of your baby.

Does Luvs have newborn sizes? Well I guess I'm not going to buy anymore Huggies b/c it seems like no one likes them. I think I'll buy the more expensive brands like Pampers until size 2 and then go for Luvs.

Nicole - my daughter is 5 months and she wears size 2 in Pampers (I don't know how consistent different brands are). I think she was out of the newborn size within a month, and she wore size 1, then the 1/2 up until 4 months. BUT, my daughter is long and thin for her age, so it also depends on each baby's shape.

I dont think so Kristy but i remember not even using newborn sizes for a full week then going straight to 1's

I heard Pamper Swadlers are really good, that what most of my friends by-
nicolejones1- I heard Costco is the smart place to buy them.
I know with Pampers my friend said , buy one bag of size 1 and them about 3 bags of 2 then the rest of size 3,if that helps( i haven't yet-no where to put them.

Kristy, the best thing is to try them all and see what you like. I actually like Huggies better than Pampers, part of the reason being that they just started adding elastic tabs, Pampers that is.

The way I look at it is, not price, but what works best for my baby. Sometimes that is the name brand and sometimes not.

My baby was small and he pooped a million times a day. I still laugh at how many times I was wiping his tiny baby bum and got hit with poop missles. I think he got everyone in my family. I once saw him peeing on my hubby when he was changing him. I didn't speak, then he got up and felt how soaked his pants were. I couldn't stop laughing. Hence, I used a ton of diapers.

Thanks Daisy....I think I will try them all.

Has anyone tried the 7th generation hypoallergenci diapers...they're not super expensive and they have great reviews?

I am having a boy, is there anything I can do to try and not get pee on? I know it will happen but do you have any advice to limit the accidents.

I was wondering the same thing connie... I would like to try to minimize the being peed on.

kristy wont have to worry to much, but I think there is something for boys call TEE PEE TENTS.....yes the look like Tee Pee but to put on top of the pee pee.

I warm up a wipe in hands and lay it over him and always have the nappy ready. I never really got peed on, just shot with poop missles. I think he came preloaded

One thing that always helped was to have a waterproof pad over the changing pad cover. Then if pee got on it, you just removed it and he stayed dry.

I always used huggies with my first and will probably this time also.

I used Huggies with my son. I tried Pampers but he had broke out with what I had thought was a rash. But after a week of apply diaper rash cream and nothing happening I ended up taking him in. What had happen was that he had an allergic reaction to the baby dry that pampers uses in their diapers. This time around I am planning on using the Target brand. I have been told by several people that they are exactly like Huggies just much cheaper. Which is true because for a pack of Huggies you pay $9.99 and for the Target brand same number of diapers you pay $5.75. I have never tried Luvs.

Depending on your the size of your baby will actually depend on how long they will be in newborn diapers and when they switch to 1s My son was 8lb 10oz when he was born so even before he was 1 month old he was in 1s.

I wouldn't purchase more the 2 packs of newborn diapers at first. I currantly have 2 packages of newborn and 2 packs of 1s.

i have never tried luvs...my son is now 17 months old and i use only name brand... I hate the cheap ones, I find not only do they not fit right and leak, my son got diaper rash every time I tried to use theem!

I guess I'm diaper illiterate... how many are in a "box" and how many are in a "pack"?... when I was comparing prices I saw ones that had 20 and ones that had 208.. so I was just wondering exactly how many diapers you mean when you say "2 packs of newborn diapers"

Huggies Size 1-2s have 192 per box and they usually cost about $29.99. The Huggies Size 1s I believe it's 56 diapers in a package of Ultratrims and 50 in the Supremes (I don't recall what these go for). Make sure to check prices when going to the store. I have found on an occassion that the box ended up costing the same as it did to purchase X package except that you get more diaper when purchasing the individual packages. So with my son I actually stop buying the boxed diapers and purchased the packaged diapers.

be careful and don't buy too many of one kind. you might have a little one like mine. he is allergic to all of them except pampers. i had to get rid of tons of huggies because he would break out. also some brands fit different little ones better than others and you can't tell until you try them. a lot of the times you can get diapers cheaper at wal-mart type stores than you can at the wholesale stores. just look for sales and cut those coupons!

Oh I hate the walmart brand diapers. I had nothing but problem with them. They leaked and my son had an allergic reaction to them. As soon as I stop using them (Thank Heavens I only purchase 1 package) his rash cleared up. With pampers I had the same issue with the allergic reaction but ended up having to use a steriod cream because he had the rash for over a week and I continued to treat it as a diaper rash since being a first time mom and never having to deal with this type of thing I assumed it was a diaper rash. Huggies seemed to be the only diaper that I did not have an issue with. I however used the supremes because the ultratrims I actually had problems with them leaking.
