A couple of things:
I get frequent headaches and before I became pregnant, I was a walking bottle of Excedrin. Now that I'm expecting, I'm not sure what, if anything, is safe to take.
Also, I am due for my first prenatal visit in December. Do husbands usually join in on these or is that not until later?
Just trying to learn the ropes...thanks!

Not sureabout the drugs. My husband came to almost every appt until the end when I had to go every week. But in the beginning he always came with me and often had more questions than me.

most doctors will tell you that tylenol is fine for headaches and then you can always talk to you doctor about maybe something stronger. and with all 3 of my kids, my husband went to the first appointment, and all the ultra sounds and then to any appointment that he didn't have to work during.

Tylenol is safe in small doses. I am a frequent headache sufferer myself. Tylenlol is what my doctor said to take. But I was so used to taking it in larger quantities that taking one or two never helped, so I usually just suffered through them. A cold cloth on the forehead really helps sometimes. My husband attended my first prenatal visit, and after that a couple ultrasounds. That's it. Good Luck and congrats!

the only thing you can take for a headache is regular strength tyenol or extra strength. then once you go to your first appointment the doctor or nurse will give you a list of meds you can take during pregnancy. my husband has been to every doctors appointment even the prenatal visit. the first visit they usually just fill out papwork and i think they do an ultrasound too, just to see how far along you are. i went to a pre-registration appointment first to fill out all paperwork, and thats where i got a lot of magazines and a binder of papers from conception to birth.

I hear that when pregnant your not supposed to take any sort or medicine. Because it could harm the child. That is my guess. And I am a firm believer that the husbands should be attending the first visit its very important to remember it as a couple.

oh just wanted to add....there are things that the doc can give you for headaches if they are really bad...during my last pregnancy i was able to take tylenol 3's when the pain was too much.

Oh girl I feel your pain!!! And there is something you can take! I live on Excedrin, before and now that I am pregnant. There is a new kind out and it is Excerdrin tension headache, aspirin free. My Dr. suggested it and it works just as well as the original. It is safe during pregnancy and it is a life saver for me. My husband went to my first appointment with me but has missed a couple others because of work. Whenever he can go I would say let him come. it's great to have someone there with you.
