Alright so I am 36 weeks, and I am guessing now's as good a time as any to start getting my bags packed since i'll be considered full term in less than a week!! (YAY). I have a good idea about what should come with ME to the hospital. But what do I need to bring for my little girl! Do I need to bring clothes for her the whole time we're there or just to bring her home in? Does the hospital (usually) provide diapers? Just basicly, what all will I need to put in her bag. And if you want to be helpful, some ideas about what to put in mine - stuff to do mainly. Thanks ladies!

I brought clothes for my little guy. They say watch that they don't get lost in the hospital linen, but my son was allergic to the detergent at the hospital, so it was a good thing I brought enough clothes for the whole stay (I packed enough b/c I was pretty sure I was going to need a c-section) I ended up using my own recieving blankets as well.
The hospital usually supplies diapers.
A boppy pillow for breastfeeding (if you are going to)
Babies don't really need much. Toys don't interest them, all they do is eat and sleep and fill their diapers.
Oh yeah, and bring a car seat lol

so I live in North Carolina USA, and my due date is late April. What kind of clothing will she need? I've got sleepers etc. but they're 0-3 months and I think they will be too big in the beggining. I've got a lot of onsies, but will they be warm enough (if used with blankets). I have 3 pair of little pants too, but they're 0-3 months as well - will they be too big? Or should I buy a pack of newborn sleepers? I made the mistake of assuming 0-3 months would fit her at birth - then people started telling me about how they wont. She's about 6lbs. 5oz as of yesterday, so if you assume the usual 1/2lb a week till birth, shes guna be between 8-9lbs. So i've got all these clothes that probably wont fit her for a couple weeks after she's born. Should I buy more or will it be okay with what i've got

I would guess the hospital provides everything you need (diapers, etc. and even clothes) but if you want your own clothes, take them. I'm taking a few onesies and a few different outfits, but mainly just so we have choices for what to bring baby home in. the 0-3 mo stuff will be a little big, but you'll probably be okay with it. I have some NB and some 0-3, but the NB stuff was given to me -- I didn't make a special effort to buy any because I figured 0-3 would be ok, just a little big. I don't know exactly how warm it is there, but I would think you'll want more than just a onesie so she doesn't get cold.

Well for the past week the temps here have been in the mid 70's and sometimes reaching 80. But thats a little higher than normal. I would say it shouldnt be too much different in temperature when she makes her way into the world. I do have gowns, too. I guess the size doesn't really matter TOO much on them since the bottom is just kind of open. I probably shouldn't worry too much since, like I said, she'll be between 8-9lbs most likely. But I did just think of another question that I should have included. How long do newborns wear newborn diapers?? AKA - considering the average number they go through a day - how many packs of newborn diapers should I plan to buy before she can wear size 1?

Even though the 0 -3 month sized clothes will be a little big, it's actually better because it's easier to get their heads through the neck hole! So what if the onesie is a little baggy - it's better than trying to squish a floppy head and neck through the tiny newborn sized clothes!

I was told in my baby class not to put them in onsies or one pieces until their umbilical cord fell off. So they said use baby t-shirts which I seem to be having trouble finding.

I was kind of wondering the same thing about NB diapers...i have about 2 1/2 packs, again, just because people gave them to me. I'm going to start with that and see how quickly they go. The weight guidelines on the diapers is up to 8 or 10 lbs for NB and 8-14 for Size 1, so you probably only need a pack, just long enough for the cord to fall off.

breemichelle...I didn't hear that about the onesies anywhere, but that would make sense. I'm counting on the hosp to dress my baby for the couple days we're there, I figure I'm paying for it, I might as well! I'll see what they say then.

well when I was at the hospital they supplied diapers, blankets and shirts for the baby aswell as any creams I needed. I think they pretty much supply you until you leave. I brought my own clothes for the baby and I went with 0-3 months because it was big and didn't press against the umbilical cord. I also pack my own socks and night cap for the baby ..for my little girl I pack the the soft ribbons for her hair as well and the baby head bands ..for our boy Dh made sure he had a newborn ball cap....most hospitals take pictures too so it great to have your own....but every hospital is different so check with yours and see ..I think that would be the best bet. I have my baby at southview in Ohio and they supplied everything so did the AF base with my first baby.

Noah was in NB diapers for the whole first month.. they do have onesies that have a hole cut for the umbilical cord. We found those at walmart.

hazelsweetp... We bought those onesies for Noah, but we only used them for a couple days. Noah's umbilical cord fell off the second day he was home. The hospital supplied t-shirts, diapers, and formula as well as receiving blankets.

that what I thought most hospital supply everything the baby needs while there, yeah I didn;t use those at all but I think there good for new mothers because at first we are worried about everything and if your like me your still worried about everything, lol

Noah is always finding something new to make me worry about!! He's only 11 months, and he just got over a nasty flu last week and he got it right back but worse yesterday and now today no fever no vomiting nothing.. strange and worrisome. Now that I'm pregnant again I'm not quite as worried as I was when I was carrying Noah, but I still scare easy when something happens that didn't happen with Noah lol. I guess as Mama's we'll always be worried about our kids no matter how old they are!

I here you on that, my Son is a picture of health and a cold never seems to bother him but my DD is always in the hospital so I worry about every little thing. She actually got her last surgery(sp) today and I can't personally see her because of risk of inffection(sp) I saw for alittle bit in my mask and everything but I wanted to kiss her and let her know it was me ...but hopefully tommorrow I can. I had to come home because I was a mess at the hospital especially with no family here, my mom, cousins and a few friends did go in with me early this morning but now I am alone again ....so my worry level is up but I get to go back in few and spend the night with her so that makes me feel better.

I had my litte guy at 35 weeks, so all the clothes I packed were a litte to small, but do pack a few outfts for them. I guess it depends on how far along you are and if you have a c-section or not. I know the hosptial doesnt provide anything for you so make sure you bring stuff like, pads, diapers, shower stuff, p.js, snacks, slippers, housecoat.
Also make sure you bring extra batterys for your camera. I was in the hosptial for a week with my littleguy so I gave the Unit chocolates and a thank you card( only do that if you want).
Good Luck!!

I love my car seat cover/blanket-it is fleece inside so you dont need to pile tons of blankets on top of them

At the hospital I was in they supplied all the diapers, vaseline, q-tips, and rubbing alcohol for their belly button....they also had these big white recieving blankets, and I just wrapped her up in those the whole time I was there. Then when it was time to go home, hubby brought in an outfit for her to wear and the car seat. The nurses there had to check the car seat before you were allowed to leave the hospital with baby!! It was better for me not to have all of her baby clothes there and stuff, cause the room I was in was so flippin' small I barely had enough room to stand up in there!! LOL....so for me, I packed as little as I possibly could. and as I needed things, hubby brought them! :-)
