If you go by a textbook it's 12-14 hours for baby #1... but I'd be interested to hear how long everybody was in labor for also (I'm pregnant with baby #1 - and planning a ceserean though).

I think normal is whatever happen to each individual. I'm not really sure exactly how long I was in labor. Apparently I was in labor for sometime but never knew that my contractions where 3 minutes apart. I was only in the hospital for 4 hours before my son was born via c-section. With my second I plan on going in for a scheduled c-section.

in response to amy.........everyone is diffrent and just cause you had an easy labor doesn't mean everyone does..........my first one was very hard and my second one was a breeze......now my friend's first one was easy but her second one was hard........so don't hold your breath to think your next one will go as smooth.......it very well might but don't expect it.......don't call people names who have a little harder time delivering a baby than you did.........belive me and not only that how big was your baby...3 weeks early he/she couldn't have weighed to much......size is a factor in the birthing process also.....just watch what you say honey it can bite you in the butt!!!!!

Well I was in labor for 38hrs lol hopefully I will not be with this baby but we will see. And yes amy there is a reason to "moan" about it. I had my gull Bladder attacks during my labor and even if i didnt I still hurt. I got the epidural because its what was best for me and I got to enjoy giving birth just not under pain. But you can be rude if you want no one can stop you they can just see how you really are. Just cause your labor wasnt all bad or painful does not mean that is the case for everyone

You have to remember that every women is different. Labor has 3 stages and each case might be different depending on how fast she passes each stage.
