Hi guys, it's me ashleymama well I went to my doc yesterday to get checked at 1:30 pm and told him about all the sharp pains I have been getting lately and he checked me and said I was 2-3 centimeters dilated, but I was not effaced. Then he said so I'm going to send you to Valley and have them monitor you for a few hours. Well needless to say me and Gerry were shocked because we were not expecting that. He said that according to his notes I was 35 weeks and 4 days at a point where they dont help "induce" labor, but they dont stop it either. So I got to the hospital and they hooked me up to the machine and I was getting contractions every 2-4 mins!!! the nurse checked me 2 hours later and I was 3-4 centimeters dilated. She called my doc and he wanted to keep me for 23 hr observation, but after they told me they were going to keep me all night I did not dilate anymore. They checked me a million times throughout the night and still no change so at 8 this morning a nurse came in and checked me one last time and said I was 4 centimeters, and that they were going to send me home she said that if my contractions got strong and were even every 5 minutes to come back because I was halfway there, and if of course my water broke to come back right away. The thing is I have this freaky feeling even though I have had one kid before that I really dont know what my contractions are suppossed to feel like. I know the hardening of the uterus, but every now and then I just get extreme pain in my vaginal area where I can't do anything but breathe deeply but I dont neccesarily feel the hardness. Another thing is I am kind of confused how I can continually dilate you know to 4 centimeters but have not effaced yet? I'm just so scared being 4 centimeters that I'm not going to realize I am continuing to dilate and get to the hospital and its going to be like the "time" I have an appt. Friday at 12 noon to be checked again, and then I will be 36 weeks per my doc. All I can say is that if he sends me to the hospital again I'm gonna tell him look unless you help my labor along dont send me there again for 23 hrs because it is NOT COMFORTABLE at all. My poor Gerry looked so uncomfortable in that chair but he would not leave my side for a second, and he has had back surgery and all. So now I am sitting at home (thank God) and waiting. I'm assigned Bed Rest so I think I'll be on my computer alot hehehehe :) any info you ladies can give me will be great!! The nurse's at the hospital keep saying we'll see you within the week at the latest, but I dont know. Doc already says Emma is at least a good 6 lbs though.

I was wondering where you were b/c usually you're all over the board. I was actually thinking that maybe you went into labor...I have alot of time on my hands as well:) I wish I could give you some advice, but I have no clue about anything concerning labor or delivery. I'm hoping my chilbirth classes in the upcoming months will clarify things for me. So did your dr. give you the chances of going into labor soon? How long does it usually take to dialate all the way? I know you were looking for answers and here I am w/ questions, but I'm just curious as to when you could be expecting Emma.

Well he thinks labor could start at any time, but at 35 weeks and 4 days it's a time in pregnancy where they wont help "induce" it by giving you pitocin if you are having contractions but they are not neccesarilly regular but if your in labor they wont stop it either. He said if I was 36 weeks then they could "help" labor along. That is why I go back and see him on Friday to be checked again, but the nurses said they would see me back at the hospital really soon!!! and to rush if my contractions start regularly because I'm halfway there and I dont want to end up having her at home. I guess I have to play the waiting game :( but I will tell you what...spending the night in the hospital when you are not in full blown labor is horrible :( I wanted to sleep in my bed so bad!!

Hi ashley, I bet you won't make it to the end of the week. This is your second baby and we all know how that goes. I know it's frustrating when you get to the end. I spent so much time in the hospital and I couldn't wait to get home. The care is good here, but nothing like Pittsburgh. I was admitted to the hospital a month early for low amniotic fluid, was there a week, thought for sure they would induce or do c-section. Every doctor that came in asked if that was the plan. All that to find out I was being discharged. My last appointment was the week before he was due and the doc asked me about his movements, told her I wasn't feeling him much so she decided to induce the next day. He was moving fine, but not enough for me. I was glad to be induced, but it was more painful. Thank goodness for epidurals and a short 4 hours of labor. I hope what they say is true for the second one, I wonder if I'll make it to the hospital at all o).

Good news today, I started my cycle! I'm so happy!!!! Happy!!!!

Keep us posted if you can Ashley and if we don't hear from you, we'll know that baby Emma has arrived.

I wish you all the best of health and happiness and know that I'm thinking of you. God bless
