I went to a dr.'s appt. today and Im almost 17 weeks and have gained about 9 lbs., she told me she only wants to see me gain 2 more lbs. the whole pregnancy! It sounded a little crazy to me, in the beginning she told me to only gain 20 lbs. the whole pregnancy well Im almost half way, and have only gained almost half that so I dont know what more she wants from me! Now Im to the point of where I dont want to eat even though im starving because I hate getting yelled at about stuff like that, anyone have any advice on how I should handle this, or ways I could lose or maintain my weight without hurting the baby?

A normal pregnancy you can gain anywhere from 25-35 lbs. I don't know what your doctor is talking about. Eat smart and healthy and your body will gain weight the way it's supposed to,and you don't have to worry about a thing. What is your starting weight? Maybe that is why the doctor said something bogus.

How much did you weigh pre-pg? If you were overweight to begin with, then the dr. may not want you to gain the recommended 25-35 lbs. Also are you sure she didn't mean only gain 2 more lbs. for the rest of your 2nd trimester? There's no point trying to lose or even maintain your weight while pregnant, but it is recommended that you eat a balanced diet to help gain at a healthy rate, which is about .5 lb. per week for averaged weight woman during the 2nd trimester. Not eating will most likey cause you to gain more weight, many dr.s exagerrate weight gain...I wouldn't worry about it.

I wouldn't worry. I'm almost 18 weeks and I've gained about 10 lbs aready and my doctor says that's perfectly normal (I was worried that I was gaining too much too fast)

Your pregnant that last thing you need is, to be concerned how much your gaining... It sounds like you are doing great so why would you or your Dr make a fuss? I gained anywhere from 24-38 pounds during my four previous pregnancies... Just keep eating sensibly and you'll be fine.
Best Wishes

I think your doctor is crazy, and maybe you should consider changing docs. I gained 45 lbs w/ my daughter the first time, then w/ this pregnancy I have gained 35 lbs so far, and I am not fat by all means it is almost all baby!!!! I would not worry what she says and if you are hungry then eat!! I would seriously suggest looking into another doc though.

Even if you were overweight you should still gain at least 20 pounds don't ever starve yourself your depriving your baby of what it needs to thrive and live you are doing great harm, eat healthy and eat smart and active and if your doctor keeps giving you crap get a new doc I gained ten pounds within the first trimester alone and was really worried the doctor was like no thats normal she was more concerned about my overall weight gain and how i was gaining then anything , she said i should gain 20 pounds by around 20 weeks or so and then a pound there after , she said up to 30 pounds was fine that is will differ because some of it is water weight and stuff. You can look it up a baby weighs seven pounds the placenta is like 2 pounds your boobs are another 2 so forth and so on.....

I was overweight prepregancy and was told I'd be ok with the average 23-35 pounds. I was diagnosed with GD early on and in order to stay away from insulin injections, I had to diet. I never counted calories only carbs and I actually lost 2 lbs even though the baby and my stomach were still growing and that was the last 4 months of it as well. I would certainly call and ask her about it, maybe there was a misunderstanding on her part.

I am trying to figure out how your doctor could even think it would be possible for you to only gain 2 more pound during the remainder of your pregnancy, when with each ounce your baby grows your weight will show this. Just eat healthy and don't worry about what you gain. As long as your not binging on Swiss Cakes and items as such they weight you gain will be healthy pregnancy weight. I gained 40 when I was pregnant with my son. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second and so far have gained 8lbs. I was actually mortified when the nurse told me that I had gained 5 1/2 pounds at my last appointment but she reassured me that I was gaining weight just fine and that I was on target with healthy weight gain.

thank you for your replies, they reassured me that Im not the crazy one, lol. I thought about it today and decided Ill just let it go through one ear and out the other but Ill avoid unhealthy food and ill exercise as much as possible, Dr.'s visits are only for like 1/2 an hour every 4 weeks so Ill just keep with her and if she gets worse Ill just say Im doing the best I can so get off my case, lol. I was a little overweight pre pregnancy but not to the point where I should be told to only gain 12 lbs. the whole pregnancy, I dont think they even tell really obese people that cuz I think its almost impossible....best of luck to everyone with their pregnancys, and thanx again for the replies
