OK so the other day at my doctor, I overheard the nurse say "trace protein" after checking my urine. They didnt say anything to me about it, so I assumed it wasn't enough to make a big deal out of. After reading up on the symptoms of PIH, I realize I could have more than a couple. But my blood pressure has been fine every single time I go to the doctor - including wednesday when they found the protein. So I guess I am just wondering - do you get all the associated symptoms BEFORE your blood pressure goes up? Or is there something else that could cause all the symptoms of PIH minus the blood pressure? I am just kind of confused. I am sure if it were something serious they would have said something to me, so I am not worried. Just would like to know what to expect.

I guess I could have listed my symptoms... Of the symptoms I found about PIH, these are what I have/have had recently:

Protein in Urine
Rapid weight gain - went from gaining nothing to gaining 7- 8lbs a week (in the last month)
Dizziness
Blurred vision, double vision, spots in front of eyes - This only happened once or twice and it's been a while since
Pain in the upper abdomen - This could be muscle aches
Decreased urination - I only have to go like 3 times a day tops

increase ur fluid intake, big time. that could be why the urine is coming back bad, ur kidneys are not flushing out, which isnt good and create low fluid levels with baby. i see black spots allll the time, i asked him about it and he mumbled not good and walked out but never said anything more. the other eye changes are actually normal during pregnancy b.c of the hormones and fluid build up behind ur eyes due to the extra hormones and blood in your body at the time of pregnancy. the weight gain, not too sure about, i was told to gain a couple lbs a week, i went 7 weeks in my 3rd trimester of gaining nothin, then over the past 4 weeks ive gained 7 lbs if you include the swelling weight. dont worry yourself over what you think it could be b.c the stress of that isnt worth it. if you think there is a true problem call ur doctor, discuss it with them, if there was something like that wrong, they have to tell you, they cant jsut whisper it around like oh she wont find out mwuahah.. doesnt work like that, doctors are assholes, but not that much of ones unless they want to lose their licenses lol

oh and the pain in the upper abdomen, i dont know how your kid is resting, but i cant sit certain ways, move certain ways, i get severe sharp pains, and its b.c my kids ass is inside my rib cage.

I am almost completely sure they were talking about me because I was the only patient there at the time. They had just put the little dipstick in my urine and then the nurse came over and said that to the nurse filling out my chart. I myself dont understand why I dont have to pee every 5 minutes like every other pregnant woman. It's not that I dont drink enough. Maybe i'm just drinking the wrong things. I try to stick with juice or tea etc. but lately it's been more soda and less juice. My stomach hurting was after I had been playing BINGO for about 3 hours and I think that had something to do with it. I have bad posture. It was the more horrible pain in the world though - I had to crouch over and take it because it wouldnt go away for anything. But then after a while it did, and I havent felt it since. Oh well, I guess i'll see what happens at the next appt. The reason I didnt ask the doctor about it is because I saw the doctor BEFORE they took all my stats this time (why? no idea - they were having a backwards day). So I didnt know until he was already on his next patient lol.

Even if you don't have PIH, based on what you said about your fluid intake, it would probably be a good idea to cut back on the juice and soda and try to drink more water. It's normal to get swollen at the end of pregnancy and not have PIH, and drinking more water will help with that. Plus, urinating 3 times a day means you are not drinking enough. Your urine should be a pale yellow or clear, and you should be drinking 80 ounces of water a day - at least. If that's hard for you, then tell yourself that once you drink 40 ounces of water you can have a soda or juice, and then drink the other 40 ounces after that.

I have protein in my urine almost every visit.

It's not that serious.

Blood two or three times too.

not that serious? no they just test for it for no reason.. and blood usually means some sort of infection.

Well they don't seem to get worried by it so it just seems as though it isn't that big of a worry.

I had protein in my urine and swelled like fat bastard. A few days later I was in hospital with severe preclampsia and hypertension it was almost fatal. It is VERY serious don't mistake that, your doctor will check you and if you have protein in your urine and high blood pressure, your going to hospital.
