Well my doc stripped mine at about 2pm and I broke my water at 2am the next day but right after she striped I started gettting harder contractions when I left the doc office so hopefully it will go as fast as mine. Have them do it cause it can help labor be faster and it just felt like they were checking my cervix

My water broke within 24 hours of having my membranes stripped.

I had my membranes stripped for the first time a week ago three days later i lost my plug. I was at a 2cm 10% effaced when they did it. Then three days later i was 2cm dilated and 75% effaced. Then this third time i had it done i was at a 3cm Dilated and 75% effaced. They are trying to get me in for an induction so hopefully that will work out. but so far i get more contractions but thats about it. and they are still random nothing consistant.

i had mine stripped with two children. had both of them the next day, actually less than 24 hours later. with my son, i just went into labor. with my daughter, i was just laying on the couch and felt (and heard) a loud pop! my water broke and she was born less than 4 hours later. i did have some some cramping after they were stripped though.

I had mine stripped the Friday morning before I had my daughter. I started cramping almost immediately after. I continued having contractions into Saturday. I went to the hospital Sat afternoon with mild (I didn't know they were mild at the time, she's my first, but they didn't hurt that much) contractions that were 4-5 minutes apart and was 3cm dialated. They kept me a few hours with no changes, so I went home to wait. My contractions became stronger Sunday morning, so we went back to the hospital around 10. They broke my water at noon and my baby was born at 5:11pm. So to make a long story short...the membrane stripping definately gets things started for you. Oh yeah and I lost my mucous plug Sat morning.

also they did it for me the day before my due date and I had her the day after my due date. I would do it again with my next baby.

I did but it was an emergency one.I went into labor naturaly and got to 7 cms dialated but my blood pressure went up and Riley was stressing out so they did the c sec.I was in labor for nearly 8 hours with contractions 2 to 3 mins apart.

My friend had this done and said it was so painful that she told them to stop. Is this true?

To strip the membranes (also called Sweeping) the doctor inserts his/her fingers into you and hooks them around your cervix and makes a circular rotation around it a few times.
It is pretty painful, but no worse than experiencing a real contraction. I just grit my teeth through it.
