Sorry, I haven't had my blood tests yet. I hope everything goes well for you! Try not to stress about it too much. You can always call your doctor's office and ask any questions you may have. I know I don't ever think of everything I want to ask until I have left their office.

if it makes you feel any better. amino tests are more likely to give a false positive. thats why alot of women waiver it. buttt ive never heard of an abnormal blood test perhaps you can google it like "abnormal blood test during pregnancy" something along those lines different variations until you find something useful.

i work in a lab and u prob had a what we call a triple screens it screens for down syndrom, all of the trisomys and some other crom test. but most of all the pos that come back are false pos we do amnios or 4d ultasounds to rule out

i remember when i had to get my blood test done too. they told me not to worry if it came back abnormal. luckily, it didnt come back abnormal. but they did say that if it did then i would have to go get an amnio, but they said even though not to worry because it still could mean there is nothing wrong with your baby. i would really try not to worry. are you decently young? it seems like it is mostly older moms that have to worry about the down syndome factor or women who have down syndome in their family or baby's father's family. try googling it and finding some reliable information about it so you can rest a little better while you are waiting.

thanks newmomma01 yes im young.. im 20. I just want to get this test overwith already.. Hey Erin81 u said u work in a lab.. I have a few questions.. How come if everything comes out OK, that the blood test comes back adnormal?? And that amnio detects the sex right?? And thanks everyone for answering, everyone making me feel a little bit better.

Hey Alyssa, When I was pregnant with my son, my blood test came back abnormal as well. They called and said my baby may have down syndrome. I know what you are going through and it's hard not to freak out. I know I did. After talking to the doctor I chose not to have an amnio done because I knew I would keep the baby regardless if he had downs or not and the risks of the amnio were not worth it to me and my husband. Make sure you do some research and know all the risks associated with an amnio prior to having it done. I had several ultra sounds done and they changed my due date several times. That specific blood test has to be done at a very specific time during pregnancy and they had mis-calculated how far along I was and did the test too early which is why mine came back positive for downs. They ran the test again about a week and a half later and it was negative, but said there was still a chance he would have it. When my baby was born he was 100% perfect. I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my thoughts because I know how scary this must be for you!

I hope all your pregnancies are going smoothely!! Thanks again anyone.. anymore thoughts please post!

have you had an ultrsound yet. If you have did it look normal. There characteristics they can look for doing an ultasound to detect downs. The blood tests are wrong a lot. So try not to worry to much. When thy do the amnio that is accurate.

Good luck,
Michelle

ok what was explained to me by my doctor was that if it comes back abnormal you have that in your genes but the only way the baby will have a birth defect or such is if both parents have it..so they should be asking to test whoever it is you got pregnant with. Your baby is probably not affected (effected??? ) by it

Name: alyssa20 | Date: Apr 12th, 2007 3:38 PM
ok that does explain it a little better. well i dont no how his blood is only for the fact that he doesn't care.. he left me. oh jeez, well when i get the results back i will be sure to let everyone no and to see if you girls are right about evrything being ok.

my mom went through the same thing with my 10 yr old sister. she was 31 when she was pregnant with her. she had to go for an amnio...and thank god it came out negative..but i just remember her just sitting there crying and crying. just don't stress about it...i hope everything turns out good.

Try not to worry, I havent had the test yet but I know what you are talking about. My doc had told me she didnt like doing that test b/c ANYTHING can make it abnormal (if its the same test I am thinking about). I'm still debating having the test b/c i know i will worry myself to death if mine came back like that. You'll be ok =)

Alyssa, to me those tests aren't very accurate and all they do is cause stress. My sis in law had high levels of something in her tests that suggested the possibility of downs and she had to have an amnio as well. Came back her baby was fine. If it helps to aleviate some stress, you'll get to find out the sex of the baby 100% if you wish. In the UK, you can pay an extra fee to get the results back in 24 or 48 hours, other than that, they would have had to wait 3 weeks.

I wouldn't worry too much. Keep us posted, you're in our prayers.

I know it's next to impossible not to be scared and worried right now. The ultrasounds that I had done prior to that blood test coming back positive for downs syndrome showed the baby right where he was suppose to be. It wasn't until the test came back and they did a more extensive ultrasound that they changed my due date. I don't know how it could have been different, but it was. I know that hearing this probably still isn't any comfort to you, but maybe it will give you a little hope. I really do wish the best for you and your baby. All I know is that after that scare I will never have that test done again. I mainly chose to have it ran to check for the spinobifida (spelling?), never thought anything about downs, but never again. Keep us posted!

Yes it is very hard not to worry.. its all i do. I even cry all the time.. (dont mean to sound like a baby, but its hard not to) so 04nidak, was your due date before you original or after?? and not only am i worried about the test but they didnt schedule it for another week and a half, and then i have to wait for the results until may 1st.. im going crazay over here.. I dont no what to think, im trying to stay calm, but its hard.

They ended up moving my due date two weeks later then it was originally. I know exactly what you are going through, I was a mess, it's so hard to wait, I cried all the time too....that does not make you a baby. I hated everyone telling me not to worry, I knew they meant well and were trying to help, but I just wanted to scream. When the nurse called to tell me that the test came back abnormal, I was sitting there listening to her talk and I was trying so hard to hold back the tears, but I just busted out crying and she had the nerve to say to me, how do you think I feel, I'm the one that has to make these kinds of calls. I went off on her, I mean that's my baby and no parent wants to imagine something being wrong with them. It's the worst feeling in the world. I'm not going to tell you not to worry because that's impossible, but do remember that this test is wrong alot and hopefully that is the case in your situation.

I didnt find out the test was adnormal until the day of my check-up and they knew before hand.. they should have called me up as soon as they known.. i started BUSTING out into tears as soon as they told me.. but all the nurses were nice and seemed like they cared.. well i hope my due date doesnt get pushed back.. but if it has to, then so be it!! sOo are u still prego? or did u have ur baby?

Name: 04nidak | Date: Apr 13th, 2007 3:06 AM
They should have called you as soon as they knew your test results. Hopefully your due date won't get moved, but if it does, it probably won't be by much. My son just turned 3 at the end of Feb so it was awhile ago when I went through this. I'm ttc #2 or possibly already preggo. I'm 11 days late and have all the symptoms, but tests are neg (very very faint line--almost couldn't see it-- on todays), but ob won't see me until 14 days late. I hope your amnio goes well and the results show the blood test was wrong.

Name: Coartney | Date: Apr 13th, 2007 3:11 AM
nidak, i had tons of negatives, then i had alot of very very faint lines, one doctor told me i wasnt pregnant, then bam positive line, and then got a blood test for confirmation

Name: 04nidak | Date: Apr 13th, 2007 3:35 AM
well that gives me hope. I feel like I did with my first baby, but it's wierd with all the negatives. The line today was barely there, I'll wait a couple days and take it again. Thanks Coartney :-)

its because your body only produces a certain amount of hcg. some women produce more and sooner, and others like me, didnt. i found out at 5 weeks, alto of women find out before they even miss their period, which is crazy lol but goodluck

Name: Erin81 | Date: Apr 13th, 2007 3:55 AM
the test can be wrong it all goes of your due date and sometimes the hormone there cheching on is higher if you are a few days or weeks preg then what they say you are it is such a hard test. thats why they do the amiio or ultrasound just to make sure that it is a fales pos and yes they can tell you the sex of your baby it will take a few days and you have to ask for it. also it will cost a little more becouse they are looking at you x and y crom i am glad i can help with this one

Name: alyssa20 | Date: Apr 13th, 2007 2:23 PM
oh ok.. thankk everyone.. ok, so Erin81, so right before the test tell them I want to check if its a boy or girl also?? Or do i have to call my doctor and let him no?? all this is so confusing.. i cant wait uintil its alll over LOL.
