My husband's sister just informed us that something in the birthcontrol pill can cause a false positive pregnancy test!!! anyone know anything about this, or ever heard of it?

Most drugs including birth control pills should not cause you to have a false positive. You should get an accurate test result while on birth control.

However, if you have protein or blood in your urine you can get a false positive. In some cases (talking from experience) an ovarian cyst can also cause a false positive and even a false negative at time. And if you are taking any medication that contains HCG you will most likely get a false positive since what all pregnancy test look for is HCG.

It's possible that she heard it from somewhere from some one who also heard it from someone who did have a false positive while on birth control but it had nothing to do with the birth contol adn everything to do with some other underlying reason. But HPT are usually accurate when used right and taken at just the right time.
