Its not reccomended to use one that old. I wouldnt reccomend it. Saftey precautions have changed since then. Plus there is always a chance for dry rotting or other things that couldve happened.

its not safe because of all the new safety features and all that they have made....7 years is a long time in car seat years because they change things every few months. why dont you just buy another base and leave it in the car

its safe as long as it hasnt been in a car crash or had anything broken on it ie car glass smashed.i wondered this coz my car was broken into and the car seat had just been missed but i chucked it just in case. if the car seats ok and noone else has had it ie did you buy from car booty then no dont use it.
just to be safe.
never buy a car seat from a car boot sale or second hand. can you answer my question.am i pregnant

how old are you smithjnicola because your writing seems a bit immature? Nobody on this website can tell you if you're pregnant. How could you possibly think that someone who has never laid eyes on you can say "oh yes, you're definately pregnant" . Only a DOCTOR can tell you if you're pregnant for sure. Pregnancy tests arent always right, so go to your DOCTOR not a website!

I looked it up and if it is older than a year old they reccomend you buy a new one. That just it sitting around for that long can make it unsafe and lessen its effect on its ability as a safety device.

I bought my infant car seat in 2004 and it actually had an expiration date on it, is says not to use after 2009, earlier if there's an accident or damage to it, but it sounds to me like 7 years may be a little too long.

Like most everyone else said it is NOT safe to use the older car seat.
The best thing we ever did was buy an additional base. We always had one in both cars so no need to transfer anything. It was only $35 and worth every penny!

Yeah You can get a seat even for not too expensive..

04nidak- Now I want to go look for an expiration date on Tyler and Belle's seats.. lol So according to that date the seat itself EXPIRES after 5 years.. wow.

Just get a new one Brandiss

I couldn't believe it when I saw an expiration date on it, but after thinking about it, they probably do wear down and aren't as safe after several years. I don't know!

The date was on the base, the one I have is an evenflo

Tyler's and Belle's are both Graco.. so I will have to check that out

I just did a search about car seat expiration dates and it says it is not recommended to use a car seat after 6 years however, 5 years is preferred.
