when at the very end of my pregnancy and had the appointment where my doc checked to see how much my cervix was dialated...i wasnt expecting it to be any worse than anything else i had gone through, getting poked, pricked, pinched...whatever the usual checkups or blood work entailed...well i was quite wrong. i had even asked my mother "geting my cervix checked" was anything to be nervous about. she told me no...trying to spare me any worry i suppose. my god! i was not expecting it to be so painful. it brought tears to my eyes, soo extremely uncomfortable!! i guess what summed it up was my doc saying i might have cramping and bleeding, but that would be normal. anyone else have similar experiences? any thoughts on this?? my water actually broke the very next day.

he was checking to see how far i was dialated. its normal to be painful. he told me i may have cramping and spotting..and afterwards when i asked my mom why she didnt warn me, she told me she didnt want me to be nervous or have any bad expectations. i was 3 cm dialated and 80% efaced at the time.

actually dialation checking can hurt they are sticking fingers in there and sometimes people are more sensitive. when you go to give birth and they check for amniotic fluid, if your water breaks, THAT hurts, they stick a huge q tip thing up there. that was worse than anything id ever felt and im covered head to toe in piercings and tattoos LOL

it also sounds like he may have stripped your membranes and not told you

It never hurt me to have my cervix checked, but people are different. It wasn't even painful, like Nikkis said he may have stripped your membranes and not told you. I had a nurse do that to me, without warning, and two hours later my water broke =/! Crazy, huh? And when she was doing it, it hurt! And before that I never hurt from ANY internals or when he checked my cervix!

what exactly do they do when they strip the membranes? i havent heard of that. and nikki...how could they have never checked your cervix?? when youre in labor they check to see how far your dialated..if they didnt check, they wouldnt be able to know how far you were, or when you would be ready to push if you delieverd vaginally...i had a c-section, but they were checkin at least every hour..my labor broke naturally, which i was happy about, all in all i had a 13 hour labor.

I never had my cervixed checked until i gave birth. They never checked to see if i was dilatated or not, my pregnancy was pretty low key until they actual labor came.

my water broke naturally at 35 weeks. i had never been checked at my doctors office because it was to early for that, and the reason they didn't check me at the hospital was my daughter was breech and they were going to try to have me labor for as long as possible before they gave me a c-section. they originally wanted me to labor for a few days, but the cantractions became too intense so i had to have my c-section 12 hours after my water broke. the docotors said there was no reason to check my cervix as everytime someone checks they can speed things along and they didn't want to risk it. which is great because my daughter had the cord wrapped around her body twice, so tight that she had bruises on her back from them getting it off of her.

I am 20 weeks pregnant and had my cervix checked last week and it was so painful that I cried. Afterwards I was not able to urinate normally for 2 days and spent 2 days in bed with pain. I had cramps and backache. I walked into the doctors office feeling great, no pains, no problems and walked out feeling like I was about to miscarry! Why would they be forcing something so vital to the wellbeing of my baby so early on?
