I called my Dr. when I thought I was pregnant cause I wanted a blood test, she told me to just take a hpt (anyone) because they are very very accurate these days.

I have never taken one but I don't see why they wouldn't work. I really like the ones that said Pregnant and Not Pregnant on them. There was no questioning them. The first one I took the line was so faint I didn't know if it was + or -

One of the $store pregnancy test said she wasn't pregnant? Wow, maybe they really don't work. I would get another one at walmart or some place else.

Hi, Girls!

Just wanted to clarify that *yes*, the dollar store brand of pregnancy tests *do* work just as well as any others and will cost you a *lot* less money! Each brand, tests for a specific level of hormones and they vary greatly by brand. Generally, the cheaper the brand, the smaller the amount of hormone they will test positive for. One of the best brands to buy is actually the Equate Brand from Wal-mart! They are only about 3-4$ for one test and they will read positive for 25+ levels of the pregnancy hormone, where as EPT and some of them will not register a positive until 40+. You can go to many pregnancy websights and print of a page of all the pregnancy test brands and at what level they will regisiter a positive.

To: Jeni... The reason it did not read positive for your friend who is seven months pregnant, is that the pregnancy hormone begins showing up in your body when you are first pregnant and gets higher very quickly in the next couple of weeks. Somewhere after 12,000-15,000, this hormone tops off and is no longer in your system. This will usually be about 3-4 months, I think it is. By the time someone is 7 months pregnant, there is generally no pregnancy hormone left in a woman's body to make the test turn positive.

Hope this helps!!! Save money... continue to use the Dollar Store or any cheepie brand! They *do* work!!

Hey thanks for the info. I didn't know all that. I guess it is true what they say, "learn something new everyday." Thanks again.

Even if you get one at the dollar store...you are just going to take it, get your anwser and say "well I wonder if this is accurate becasue it came from the dollar store." And then you will go buy another expensive one anyway. Most hospitals or doctors will do them for free anyway. Just call around. Plus its not that expensive to just go to wal-mart and buy one! They are anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars....isnt it worth it to know??

FYI is wrong...please understand that some women do not spill the hormones into their urine (this is rare but it happens). With any test, there is a possibility that the test won't work no matter how much you pay. Also, it depends on how quick your body produces the hormone!

Also, if you didn't produce your hormone through the whole pregnancy, you would have a miscarriage! Come on girls, go to your doctor if you have questions. People on here just have opinions and usually don't know the real answer.
