Ok I know I should have asked the doc this while I was there but They said my outer cervix is open but the inner is still closed. What is the differance between these and effacement and dilation? I am so confused. Have had 3 preterm babies and am trying to keep this one in longer...any idea?

Well I've never heard of an outer and inner cervix, but what I probably think that your doc meant is that maybe your cervix is starting to efface meaning thin out and then usually you start to dilate, but I dont know so dont take what I said to heart. How far along are you again??

I am definatly going to have to ask when I go in next week. I am only 23 1/2 weeks along. Since I have had three preemies already I am kind of nervous around anything that could set me off. With my last one I was found to be 25% effaced and already dilating at 30 weeks. After 48 on Magnesium and a week in the hospital, I was sent home on bed rest. She still came at 34 weeks.

What you said was what I am thinking but I really hope not this soon. I will defiatly be asking though.

Thank you

Ya I hope you are not dilating or effacing yet either but the good thing is we are in a time now when babies can be born at 30 weeks and definatly survive. Like you said you have had 3 preemies, which I hate to say it increases your chance for another one. Let me know what your doc says.

Will definately let you know what she says. I go back in on Tuesday afternoon so will post afterwards. I am on a weekly hormone injection that is said to possibly stop premature labour form starting but we didn't start those until just last Wednesday (was told same day about the outer and inner thing). I am a little concerned but luckily I go to a hospital with one of the best NNICUs in the country (Bethesda-the presidents hospital) and I am military so the baby would recieve anything she needed without worry of what it might cost. That makes me feel a little better but I would like to get this one to cook a bit longer. Honestly I am hoping to get to that frustrated last month I hear other women complaining about. I am determined not to have another tiny baby but am ready in case it happens. Thank you for replying
