It really depends on your hours you're home... Im a homeschooling mom myself and it takes a lot of effort. There are tutors that can teach your children or maybe get help from other family members but I think that you should ask your children what they want because if you take them out of school and they want to be there then I don't think they'll do their best in homeschooling but each child is different

My children have been asking to be homeschooled. We have had some very bad experences with the teachers this year. My school schedual works out so that my husband is home with the kids while I am in class. I just don't even know where to start to homeschool them. What am I supossed to teach them? where do I get the materials?

Sonia, have you considered taking your children to a different school? Open houses exist to help parents decide which school is best fitted for their kids. You are not stuck with the school they are currently attending. Look online for schools that are unzoned or charter schools in your area. Check out them at insideschools.org. Once you find a few you think would be good, set up appointments and visit them. I hope this helps.

Home school is the worest choice, your children will never learn how to interact and develop social skills, you would just be hurting them by homeschooling them.

first off try a charter school or something and if that doesn't work out then go for homeschool it's not about the big anti social myth which has been prooven wrong, homeschooled kids are just as social as any other kid I think you've come to the wrong place though if you're looking for advice on homeschool because anyone here just wants to change your mind without them having actually experience in the field.

There are so many web sites out there to help with home schooling. I called the county board of education to see what was required for me and they sent out a package. Every state is different so that might be a good place to start is your county board of education. My son started kindergarten this year in public school and it has turned out to be a HUGE mess, we are pulling him out to home school next year as far as social skills, T-ball,basketball, soccer, ect. There are home shooling groups for the kids to get together with to so they get better social skills but to be honest my son has learn some AWFUL social skills this year and is so bored he talks ALL the time in class, I have asked the teachers to help and give him busy work, they are too busy with the kids that are not getting the work to bother with teaching him more or giving him more work.

Stacey-- Is it the "worest" choice? Why are you on a home-school forum when you obviously don't believe in it? Nothing better to do? Already seen today's episode of "Married With Children"? Get a life and keep you nose out of topics you know nothing about and have obviously never experienced.

Dear Sonia,
I love homeschooling my boys (and soon to be girls in a year or two) Since I have 2 little ones and they demand a lot of attention and because I am not organized or neat. I decided this year to do Bob Jones University Homesat. We have a satelite and record their classes. You can also order the
Dvd's It has been so helpful. It frees me up to take care of wee ones! I don't have to be beside my students the whole time! (Yet I do miss it!) It's a bit more expensive than alot of methods of homeschooling but It is safe and very good education with biblical principles! Contact a local homeschool group and sit in on some meetings to get to know some woman. They will be a lot of help! I have 4 kids and they socialize all the time! They have cousins, neighbors, friends, church family, the mailperson. They socialize plenty! You just need to take extra steps to make sure they spend time with peers that you trust and that will make healthy relationships! Please keep in mind that the #1 reason for homeschooling is to keep the "Bad socialization" most kids get in school at bay! I hope this helps! Take Care & God Bless

It does reguire time, but I use Califonia Virtual Acadamy which is actually part of the public school system. Many states have simialr school. Search Virtual Acadamy. They sent us all the supplies, books, lessons we need so that takes a lot less time than trying to create lessons on your own. It is the first year we have used it and I am very impressed. The good side is that the work is at your own pace. Some days you may have more time and some days less. We really like it.
