I was wondering if anyone in here had any advice or suggestions or just plain experience in homeschooling that would want to help me out. I'm thinking about homeschooling my child, but only for a few select years. I was thinking maybe just the junior high years specifically 8th and 9th which is still J.H. where i live (which in my schooling experience were the years i screwed off and learned the least). That way highschool starts off on a good foot without all the public school influence and possibily a few extra credits.

Why not all of highschool? If you're homeschooling only for social protection, the negitive influences and social pressures to "screw off" do not decrease in the 10th-12th grades...

There are a variety of alternatives, depending on how comfortable you would be with teaching him and depending on your state's requirements. Depending on your comfort level, the amount of time you have, the interests your son has, what type of learner he is, etc. are all questions to ask prior to choosing the type of homeschool you will have.
Over the years I have tried different approaches, from completely designing the curriuclum to buying one already designed. I have never used an on-line school, but I have a friend who does and it works very well for her family. When I pulled my son out of school I started out thinking I was only goint to homeschool him the rest of that year. THe end of the year came and I thought, wow, he has really improved academically from that child I brought home 6 months ago and more importantly, he is so much nicer and more cooperative. At this point I thought, well, I'll continue to homeschool him during the elemantary grades. Junior High is when I will send him to private/public school. Well... ... he is still homeschooled. I did not want to send him, but better yet, he did not want to go. So, my one "warning" is that you may think you are only going to homeschool for 2 years but your son may decides he prefers it to public school.
I would be glad to offer you any assistance or answer any quesitons (if I can) because when I first pulled my son out of private school, I did not know a single homeschooling family, had no idea of all the resources available, and did not own a computer. Someone to talk to would have been nice. It may not have taken me 4 years to figure out there was a co-op just 5 blocks from our house! If you would like to chat 1 on 1, my e-mail is [email protected]
