Up until a year ago I thought my son had only ADHD, but an IQ test was given a year ago with a score of 65 putting him in the mildly mental retardation range. This year another test was given scoring a 61.His school told me he is 6 points above what he would need to qualify for additional services. He cannot tell time, count money, cook, tie shoes and so many basic skills a person needs for survival. He is 11 now and I fear for his future if something would happen to me, I have no other family. But I have mentioned his problems to his school, psychaitrist and counselor, they just tell me there is some things he can never learn but I keep feeling there has got to be somewhere I can turn for help. His school just passes him through each grade and don't really seem to care that he's not learning anything. He is singled out by other kids because of his behavior, he acts like a 5-6 year old child most of the time and other kids just treat him like he is wierd and I feel so bad for him but don't know what to do. My brother was mentally retarded but back then they went to a special school and at least he didn't have to singled out because he was different. If anyone knows of where I might be able to turn for help I'd greatly appreciate it.
