This is gross but scary, my Doberman has been rasping coughing every morning for the past week. I could not figure out why this was happening. He seemed fine all day he would only do it in the morning. This morning I got up to a room full of vomit! Yes.... it was disgusting! it was all over the place. However.... even though there was several pools of vomit I did find out why he was coughing every morning. In the center of one of the pools there was a huge matted furry looking thing. It kinda looked like a small animal! He had apparently eaten the inside of one of his stuffed toys. He is lucky it came up and didn't go down lodging in his intestines, if that happened he would have gotten real sick if not died. All of you with dogs keep a close eye on their soft toys, be sure there is no holes in them. My dog isn't a puppy so don't think because your dog is an older dog he wont eat things other than his food. My dog has never eaten any thing in the past, so for me this is surprising!

been there and we have had some go through the they had to be pulled out. so we switched to all natural fillers such an shredded corn stalks and some time whole kernel corn. there are alot of other things that are used as well. if you must by the toys with stuffing cut a small hole in it pull the fiber out and re stuff it with some thing digestible the sew the hole or leave it flat they wont know the difference

It turned out the stuffing I thought he ate want stuffing at all, it was the cats toy! I thought it kinda funny that he would have stuffing in his belly when all his toys were still full. I had to take him to the vet because he has been vomiting all day non stop. The vet cant find a reason for the vomiting. She said if he continues vomiting through out the night then we should do exploratory surgery to be sure there isn't some thing in his intestine that was missed on the X-ray. So we will see how he does through out the night.

Yes, he has had all his vaccinations. So far he hasn't vomited, its been about 4-5 hours. I hope what ever is ailing his belly is finally going away.

Up date, it turns out my dog didn't only eat one cat toy he ate two, the second one ended up in his intestine. He got deathly sick over the week end finally this morning he was taken in for surgery. Because the blockage was there for a couple days he ended up with a lot of dead tissue, he lost 40 inches of his intestines! I tell ya.... I would never have thought my dog would have eaten any thing other than his food. I have.... never... ever... seen him attempt to eat any thing like that! I guess I have learned a lesson some times things are not what they appear.

I am so lucky Vander is doing good. He came so close to dieing! the vet said he would never have made it through the day if he didn't come in when he did. Man.. I would have been horribly upset had he died. The good news is he will do fine with only half of his intestine. So now I have to wait for him to get stronger so that I can bring him home.

Since my last post Vander hasn't been doing to well he refuses to eat and can not hold water down. I dropped him at the vet this morning, he will be evaluated to see if he needs more surgery. They offer him some food and he did eat it, now they are watching to see if he holds it down. If he doesn't hold it down that will mean theres some thing wrong and he will have to be reopened again. I have my fingers crossed that he wont vomit it up!

Vander did have to go back in for more surgery. The intestine started to die off just past the suture site causing the it to leak. It didn't leak much, not enough to make him sick. What did make him sick was when the intestine started to die off, it began to close in on its self causing it to block any thing trying to pass through. It is now Saturday morning, he had the second surgery yesterday. The vet called me this morning she said he is doing wonderful! and can come home today. I am so happy that all has turned out well for him, I'll cross my fingers that he remain ok!

I went through the cat toys and got rid of all the ones that had cat nip in them. Also I moved what was left to the furthest room from the stairs that way she cant knock them down the stairs to where the dog is. I swear the cat was sitting at the top of the stairs saying.... here doggy doggy eat this! Lol!!!

I was talking to my vet about the things they find in dogs stomaches and intestines. She said they find a lot of underwear, for some reason dogs really love underwear!

Ecila54~my Vander is 5 years old, not exactly a puppy. I have realized its not just puppies that eat foreign objects. I have also learned that all ages dogs should be watched well, even if they never have eaten any thing in the past!

Aww.... thats to bad, sorry to hear that. I lost my pepper girl just a couple months ago, she was 14 years old as well. I didn't actually lose her I had to have her euthanized. She had so many health problems it was unfair to allow her to continue existing the way she was.

Yes... they are! I miss my old lady dog. Thats what I called her, my old lady dog! She was a Schnoodle, a x between a Poodle and a Schnauzer. When I got her she was considered a mutt but now she is a designer dog. Still a mutt, but with much more class! LOL!!!! I do miss her terribly!

My Vander boy had his staples removed today. He is doing so good after his surgeries! YAHHHH!!!!!! I guess my fingers being crossed worked. He has lost a lot of weight... it will take some time to get it back on him. After all he has been through... If all we have to worry about is getting some weight back on him then we are doing fine.
