Well we have cloned the first cat now. Sheep, cows, and cats. Vets are taking DNA to store for the use of cloning dogs next. People feel that they love their pets so much they later would like to have them again. My question is why would you want a copy of your pet? At what point do we stop playing GOD? Next is humans. If we ok cloning dogs, cats and so on when will they decide cloning granny is ok.

So what is your take on this complex situation?
Are you ok with cloning your pets?

As much as I love my animal companions I don't think I would want to have one cloned. I don't think its right, death is death there for we should except our losses.

I have had this conversation many times with people who think that it is ok to clone animals or certain parts of them (like the mice growing human ears out of their backs) I have an issue with any form of cloning because I think that natural selection is the best practice that we can use to determine life and death. I think that is true for my beloved pet or my even more beloved children . People have said to me that I would change my mind if I were ever put in that situation where I would need to decide to use something that has been cloned or let a loved one die. I dont think that I would. I wish that more people would understand that extending life beyond natural expectations or creating something to take the place of something else that you loved in your life is wrong I also think that if you truely loved your pet that much then you would have the ability to take the love that you had for the pet and use it to love a new one when you were done with the grieving process.

and also do people actually think that they will get a personality clone when they clone?

If ALL the genes are cloned the clone will be exactly like the one it is cloning in personality, looks, and even intelligence.

"personality" WRONG

Due to the inefficiency of animal cloning (only about 1 or 2 viable offspring for every 100 experiments) and the lack of understanding about reproductive cloning, many scientists and physicians strongly believe that it would be unethical to attempt to clone humans. Not only do most attempts to clone mammals fail, about 30% of clones born alive are affected with "large offspring syndrome" and other debilitating conditions. Several cloned animals have died prematurely from infections and other complications. The same problems would be expected in human cloning. In addition, scientists do not know how cloning could impact mental development. While factors such as intellect and mood may not be as important for a cow or a mouse, they are crucial for the development of healthy humans. With so many unknowns concerning reproductive cloning, the attempt to clone humans at this time is considered potentially dangerous and ethically irresponsible.

I love science but man this is crazy. Why are we so set on cloning humans and animals? If we would control the urge to populate we would not need to clone animals. God only knows we need no more human population.

"Scientists use pig eggs and human cells in human cloning experiment, avoiding need for human eggs. The pig-human hybrid embryos appeared viable. Similar to human cloning success using cows egg. The scientists say that the pig human embryos could have been implanted in either pig or human wombs. (Ed: I doubt if they would have grown well in pigs). Research disclosed in European patent application. The pig - human work was carried out by Stem Cell Sciences in Australia and Biotransplant in America. TWo pig - human embryos were grown to 32 cells stage, in a week. No technical breach in European law because embryos "not 100% human".

Well, scientificaly, if EVERY chromasome was cloned exactly the same the resulting clone would be exactly the same in every fasion. Not to say over time the personalities wouldn't change but at birth, without any outside interaction, their personalities would be exactly the same.

LOL so a 1hour old baby has personality characteristics you can see?
your no science geek huh? lol

A clone is nothing but a exterior hard copy. you would not grow up having the same experiences as your original. There for two different people who just look alike. one just dies real young and ages fast.

A persons personality is based on both outside influenses and genetics, some parts of the personality will be the same. I do know what I am talking about because I have a class on this. and yes, I am a science geek .

Hi Hiddy the second.
A class huh wow you must know what you are talking about. *rolling eyes* Well I majored in it and have a masters lol. so i must really know something huh?

your class means squat on here hun. Frankly you are not worth the debate in my eyes only because you have been on a pet forum this whole time to talk about humans and discuss opinions unrelated to the animals. you out of the blue go on these rants about people and how they need our help. Well get off your ass and go help them. I am actively involved in every thing I talk about in one way or another. Thank you and good night.
