I was just wondering if anyone who has had a child has an oppinon for me. Here's the dilemma...

My husband works at a resort hotel (alderbrookresort.com for anyone whos interested) and has already told his boss that we're trying to get pregnant (yup, i'm asking this a little early, but what the hell). Anyways, his boss mentioned that once i'm pregnant and approaching my due date my husband can comp a room there for me (comping means he can sign for it to be free of charge, since he's managment) so that i will be near him and not home alone when he's working night hours. Sounds like fun to me, not to mention room service, and it wont be my carpet if my water breaks, lol. There is a catch though, it is an hour from the hospital. Is this to far to be reasonably safe? I figure that if you're gonna be in labor for 12 or 14 hours than 1 can't hurt, but i've never been in labor so my thoughts dont really count for much.

thanks much for answering all my silly curiosities, you guys have been really helpful

well i think that you'll be fine. i live 1 hour away from the closest hospital and i made it way early. my water broke and since i lived a hour away my doc said go ahead and come on in. i got to the hospital at 9 a.m. sunday morning and didn't have my son until 2:21a.m. monday morning. i know that everyone is different but first time moms usually have longer labor than others. hope this made u feel a little better.

I too live an hour away from the nearest hospital, I arrived around 5am and didn't deliver until 4 that afternoon. My only advice to you is if you are alreadly dialated 2-3 cm and somewhat effaced and you know you want the epidural, don't try to labor at home (for early labor). If you go in active labor quickly (like my sis, who had her 1st baby just 2 hours after arriving to the hospital) it may take a little while to get the epidural, plus you don't want to be in active labor while driving down the highway! But don't be alarmed some women walk around at 3cm for a month and then still have to be induced a week overdue. Everyone is different, I am sure you will be fine.

It depends on you. Myself my labors are long so if it were me I would be fine. But my sister on the other hand... She started to have contractions her water broke and her baby came a half hour later. She was in labor for like 45 minutes with her first. Same with the her other two kids. She actually had one of her kids in the abulance. I mean she actually gave birth to her daughter in the ambulence. That would be so scarey. If I were you I would want to be closer. I have always been so afraid of having my kids at home or in the car on the side of the road. Im a great big chicken though!! Thats just me.
