Maxie---I love to garden. I enjoy planting flowers and vegetables. I planted so many tomato plants in my garden that the ferlizer kicked in on overtime and I had them coming out of my ears. Yet, I canned so many.

wow that sounds amazing!! I have only at the moment flower and folleage gardens and just love them. However this year I think I will put in a small veggie garden to start. I know nothing of canning.......sure wish I did. But for now I hope to just sow enough so that we can have fresh veg in the summer. Its a start.

Hi Maxie---Sorry, I couldn't chat with ya more my hubby was barking at me to use the computer.

Anyways, I love gardening. I had a really nice flower garden at my old house before I divorced. I would plant my perennials and if I didn't like it in that particular spot, I would move it somewhere else. It was just the enjoyment of watching what I could create. My hummingbird garden was starting to become successful but then I had to move.

As for my veggie garden. I have to watch out for the critters...the rabbits or deer. I was able to keep out the deer with a fence but the rabbits were able to get in. The stinkers will get in and chew my beets down to numbs. Grrrrrrrgh!! Makes me so made because I love canned beets.

What do you enjoy most out of your garden?

Good morning little bird (tweety)! Yes...for me its parineals all the way. I will plant some wave patunias this year for the urns...becaues they grow so quik and are so full and cascade so lovely. Other than that though the amount of money I have spent on both trees (Magnolia wite cup blooms) and etc., is now in the thousands at least 3. And no I do not want to do it every year. For that I would need a gardener...but then where is the joy? So yes perineals too. And I managed to have it so I have blooms all the year long right until September. Beautiful.

The pond i put in with a small fall was absolute back breaking work. the rocks I moved myself and no word of lie...some had to be 100 lbs. Nope no weekling here (well not then the first season) I dont think i could do that now. But in the end it was worth the work.....its so beautiful and relaxing. I situated it right out of one of the kitchen windows. I can watch the fish swim in the pond. Too the sound of the fall is sooo soouthing I love it. Now we want a very large project of the same. This time a huge fall and streem with a good size pond at the end. I was going to put it in this year.....as last year i carved out the path for the streem and lined each side with hostas, magnolia trees, pampus grass, (belive its call) blood grass? Red small version of pampas. Ferns of various types couple of lilly of the valley shrubs....corkscrew tree.......gives you the idea anyway. But I do think that just one season since I have been here i just mainly want to watch it grow. I will put in a rose garden......and move plants...........I do that all the time. Sometimes they just seem out of place.....good idea at the time.....but not enough sun or too much or i just want to move it.

Critters in veggie gardens......yeah we have them here. Dont think the dear will come...maybe....they are here for sure....rabbits......yeah and racoons.......LITTLE CRITTERS alright. But I will do what i can......and love beats too. Oh they are the yummyest i agree!!!!!!!!!

i enjoy most........seening the efforts of my work. What I created.......watching the flowers bloom and the lovely scent that fills the air. Stargazers are just outstanding for that. The water and fish swimming in the pond and the music of the waterfall.

Hi Maxie---Oh, it's nice to here someone else loves gardening like I do. The description of your garden sounds very, very beautiful. Right now, I'm renting so I can't throw myself into the flower aspect. I did plant some annuals in the front of the house but the foundation leaks so bad that everytime I would water the flowers, I would flood my basement. I swear this house is older than dirt. As soon as hubby and I find either land to build or buy a house, I will be working hard at my creativity. I want to do a pond, too. They are so soothing like you said. I'm like you though, I'll move things around just because I want to or it may not look good in the initial spot I put it in. I've found what works well in the sun and what doesn't. I want to do another hummingbird garden again. I love those little birdies. I get so much enjoyment out of watching them. I had one that keep drinking the food I put out for it. All it did was park it's butt on the perch and drink, drink, drink. I thought it was going explode from drinking so much. I guess I must have made it really sweet he couldn't resist to leave. I love roses, too. I told hubby instead of buying a bouquet of roses to just buy me the whole bush. I would get much more enjoyment out of it. Although, it took me awhile to realize that the aphids loved so I had to fertilize them often. I do like the perennials because they keep coming back. I love a variety of color. I had these particular tulips that looked so dainty. They looked really nice all clustered together. I buy plants from mail order catalogs or small plants that are pretty cheap from like Walmart or Home Depot. With enough fertilizer, I bet I could get the concrete to grow. lol. Sounds like you have your garden set up in the right locations, too. That's the key. I'm hope by this spring/early summer, I will have a place I can call my own. Granted, my land owners don't mind if I plant things but I just don't want to spend all that money for something that's not mine. Soon, though.

Right right you are......forgot to mention the humming birds. Are they not the most delicate of little birds? And the color is stunning. The like to come round the pond. I have a wiggley tree there and the stargazers and man you can be sitting right there and the little sweeties come so close you could reach out and touch them..........I adore those little birdies..........so dainty and stunning all in one.

Yeah the thing about renting......puts a damper on what you do also. Make it look to pretty and they want to sell it.........had that happen many years ago! Never again. But still you can really enjoy.....and too...if you plant in planters....you can always take them with you.

I have to locate a gardening forum...a good one......what do you do with your roses? Mine are new as of last year.......but going to move them all to a garden all there own ( I have names for all my gardens too lol). The came in so lovely.....but I do wonder what exactly you can do to promote the boom time and keep them form bugs...as well i notice they can get a bit brown on the edges dont care for that. Any advice?

Hi Maxie----I love those hummingbirds. I also get enjoyment watching the goldfinches. They love those thisle seeds. Plus, were I live, I get to watch the blue jays be mean to other birds and get a bang out of watching the woodpecker do his thing. It amazing how he can bang his beak and not have a complete headache. It gives me a headache just watching him.

As for my roses, I use the liquid fertilizer Mircle Gro on them but they like sun to part shade. The don't like to get hot. Plus you don't want them to wet because their roots will rot. When I put them in, I dig a trench about a foot in diameter away from the bush around the whole bush and put a little cow manure mixed with soil in the trench. Then I plant the bush, build the dirt up around the bush so when it rains the water will run down away from the bush towards the trench. Fill the trench in but about an 1" or 2" exposed so you can still see it. This way, when you do water the bush, you can fill the trench with water, it will soak in down through the manure to the roots. Don't use straight or too much manure because you can burn the roots. I mix it with soil before adding. This gives them a good heathly start and will help to keep the aphids off of them.

I used to buy seeds of vegetables and flowers and grow them under a grow light in my basement . I loved impatients (annuals). They are always in constant bloom. The best part about them is towards the end of the summer, they would get these little pods on them that are full of seeds if you pop them. You will know if they're read to pop by just squeezing them lightly. Then, I'd save all the seeds and start them end of January first part of February and have all the annuals I needed for my gardening. I'd do this with the marigods, too. They're flower heads are loaded with seeds.

One year, I found a mail order company that I ordered 7 different kinds of hot peppers. I had habenaro's, serreno's, chilis, banana peppers, bell peppers, etc.....That was the best tasting hot sauce I've ever canned. It was so darn hot that I needed to put WARNING labels on the jars. Only 1 teaspoon of the stuff to a pint of tomato sauce was all that was needed. It was halerious because my friends, who loved hot sauce were sweating bullets. They're mouths were on fire and they couldn't stand it.

In fact, just last year, my dummy hubby was just itching to get his hands on my habenaros to pick. I kept telling him not to touch them because they weren't ripe yet. Well, like an idiot, he picked one and took a good bite. Needless to say, I was watching out the kitchen window while doing my dishes and saw him come running 4/40 towards the house. When he got inside he tried everything he could to get the hottness out of his mouth. Then, he asked if he could bend over backwards to lick his own ass so he could get the taste out of his mouth. I was in tears laughing so hard. I told him that I warned him to stay out of them. I guess he found out for himself. Then he looked back at me and said, "Bitch, you tried to kill me!" Deetadee!!

So how about you? What's your favorite things??

Bump for Maxie. Sorry didn't mean to write a handbook.

Name: maxieellis | Date: Jan 10th, 2007 3:53 AM
that was priceless ehehhehhhhhhhhhhaaeeeeee oh gads i can just picture hubby on the race! Tooooo funny. Crack me up.

Sorry i forgot about this till just now. I though ..Oh I have to see about the roses and what to do i wonder if she answered. Thanks for the information. Since i am going to plant that garden this spring..thats what I will do right off the start. Excellent information. I figured I had a bit too much sun on them. Well I will get them moved this year.

My favorite things ....about a veggie garden did you mean or in general.? oh well, for veggies, peas, carrots, beats, green beans I dont care for squashes of any kind. Luttuce I will likely plant just the things that for sure I know my family will enjoy too. Kids ya know...smidgie bit fussy.

Favorite other things. Oh my gosh I have so many interests. Computers and how they are put together. I have built three the last one (newest) I just bought just a steel of a deal. I have been dealing with the same computer fellow for a few years now so....I couldnt beet the price. Why do it myself then ya know?

Decorating. Good gosh I need to stop that though. Look what I got myself into now. New paint color for the kithchen! What a job. I must be nuts. Always into something not happy unless I have some project going on! Yet, like the kitchen once I start I cant imagine why exactly i did???????

Electronics also. I have build so many things. The last unit was a air pump for the blow up bed for sleepovers. Now in just moments bed is full. Lets see that cost all of about...1.50 total. All just parts of toys bits and bobs hanging around the house. I do all kinds of things like that and tought myself just like the computer building. Idid though ask a lot of questions regarding computers...along with joining forums to find out and share. Forums are tremendous for that kind of thing.

Cooking too ...well not really so much but again I will join a forum to try and jazz up the day to day you know. Its yet another task in the day that needs sprucing up. Not like if your single and entertaining. Then you really have time to sip wine and be creative. Here.....get the task done.....hungry eyes are upon me!

Travel. My most favorite of all. If you didnt already know i was a flight attendant for many years. So I have had the good fortune of seeing so very much of the world....yet there is much that i still have yet to visit. But will.
