I was just wondering......
You know, wal mart is doing away with Lay Away now (so much for buying Christmas there)...but myself and a few other people I know have been told by wal mart employees that part of why they are ending lay away is to "attract a higher class" of shopper.
Does that piss anyone else off, I mean the thought that people who aren't made of $ are no longer 'good enough' for wal mart?

I have heard the same thing. I put my son's toys on layaway there this year. I know Sam Walton would be rolling over in his grave he knew this. He stated Walmart for the hard working class of America. If they are going to have those thoughts ( attract a higher class of shopper), I might just take my businness elsewhere.

We dont have Walmart here, but we have a store called Myers which is a huge chain store and they did away with lay away (layby here) and brought in The Myer Card for what i thought was the same reason. I used to walk into that store and be pushed and shoved....now it is the emptyest shop around

I did hear of rewamping of Wal-Mart.... To tell the truth I am not quite comfortable with the idea of us liking the cheap prices. Because if you deduct shipping, payroll expenses from a garment, how much is left? That's what was paid to the person who spent hours making it.

Does this mean they will higher prices too then? I only shop there for the awesome deals, so if that changes even a little bit I will not go back!

They are raising the prices. I went to get my friends baby an outfit, and the was this adorable sweater sleeper. I thought this is cute, and then I looked at the price and it was $18.00!! I told my husband if I am going to spend $18.00 on an outfit for a newborn or any child I will go to Macy's or JCPenny's and get something really nice on sale!! I am the same way, I have always shopped there because it was afforable. I hate paying alot of money for my kids clothes just because they are not in them very long.

They will regret this...I'll go to Target. There store is classier and If I have to pay the price, thats where I'll shop instead.

That is how I feel. I love Target kids clothes but never really shopped there because of the price compared to walmart. The thing that sucks is I have to drive 1/2 an hour to target and walmart is right in town.

I dislike shopping at Wal-Mart very much. I would much rather shop at the smaller stores and I only go into Wal-Mart if I really have to.

See the town I live in is getting bigger and bigger. We have the Super Walmart, and 2 other grocery stores, they just built a Menard's that opens tomorrow and there is suppose to be a Lowes going in. Nothing that helps me of course!!!! My husband will be AWOL even more with those stores around. lol

Where I live we have a Wal Mart Super center, K Mart & Big Lots, we have a mini JC Penny's to. It just burns me because I was planning on putting a crib and stuff on layaway because I can't afford it straight out. So much for that!
Guess I'll have to drive the two hours to Springfield to do my Christmas shopping and such!

highclass walmat=rt it is am ony moron like jumbo shrimp LOL Also do they think that high class people will start running over because the there is no more lay a way they do not care. that just means more people in the regular lines LOL I like some things at walmart and they have some good deals I think that the law a way thing would get a bit overwhelming during christmas though. I don't really care either way if they have it or not, but if their logic behind getting rid of it is to attract hight class people then they will loose money. People who need it will go to abother store that has a lay a way and the people that they are looking to attract who do not already shot there will not start jsut because of the new policy.

Well my thing is that now I do all my shopping there, food and everything, But I would prefer to drive up to the next town and spend the same amount of money on cuter things.

I am so upset with Walmart doing away with Layaway. And I too notice that they are raising their prices. I actually go to Target now for clothes for my son since they seem to be cheaper then Walmart now. I have a feeling that once layaway is completely gone more people are going to rethink what they are getting. I use to put a whole mess of clothes on layaway for my son when the new season came out so that way I had clothes for him. Now I will end up spending less. I also believe more people will look around at prices before the settle on purchasing something at Walmart.

If that is true then they better get some better clothing and other products in their. But ya it really pisses me off.I was told that you can do xmas layaways but after the 15 od dec they are done.I have 2 right now that have to be out by dec 8

Yeah I am here. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Layaway where I am from is completely done Dec. 8th. You can put things on Layaway until Novemeber 19th but everything must be picked up by the 8th. If you do not pick it up on the 8th they will actually cancell you layaway and restock everything.

I worked at Wal-Mart for years and the reason they have you pick up those layaways early in December is because they dont have the space. Thats not new that has always been a rule at least the 20 years I worked there.

That could also be the reasoning behind the no layaway idea.
No space.
also I was thinking with the store credit cards they are trying to get people to open the credit cards. havent you noticed that they are incouraging debit cards buy making you have a I.D. with your check again. They will get the money and not have to deal with bad checks If debit is used instead. This really upsets our shoppers at Dollar general. especialy the seniors.

OH REALLY!!!!???? Yeah that's about right after they go and run all the smaller businesses out! That's probably been Wal-marts gameplan all along! Woo us with their great deals and low prices until they are the only place left to shop and then pull the rug out from under us and charge more and take away lay-away!We should have known that would happen eventually I guess!

Like the old saying goes,"if it's too good to be true then it probably is!"

I usually love living in a rural community, but in this case it really limits where you can shop when they take wal mart off the list.
Oh well, at least my kids are old enough they prefer cash. A few gifts....guess I can order them online, and the good ol' green!
