What are your opinions about teenage mums aged 17 and under getting the baby bonus in 13 installments? I know alot of young mums to be that a picking up a big stink about it BUT.. I think there should be the choice for everyone to get it in installments if they wanted so.. When I have my baby and recieve the money I will be nervous about that much money just sitting in my bank account! I would much rather it in installments! I personally think the installments for teenage mums is a great Idea. I know too many of these girls that have got there money and blown it in a month on shit! (Including my older sister!) When I had my son I recieved $800.. so im not complaining about the money i would just rather it in installments!

I think its good for the ppl who use it properly, the instalment thing is a great idea stops them from spending it all in one hit. Although like my mum says she was a single mother and only recieved $5oo and managed fine. I also think though its to much of an incentive for imature women(not only teens) to have a baby for the money and think it will last forever and in which most cases it doesnt if your using it for the right things. I remember just after i had my son i went to the shopping centre and a lady walked up to me asking how much my baby bonus was when i told her she said to me that she was thinking bout having a baby the next year because it was going up and she wanted the money, this wasnt a teenager either this lady would have been in her late 20's. Its a hard subject to comment on there are pros and cons to it.

I totally agree.. my fiance sister had a baby in August and she wasted $4000 in a month and had nothing to show for it. Now she is broke all the time her and her partner are both umemployed and a lot of the time they need to borrow money for formula and nappies! She needed it in installments! at least she would have money to feed her baby!

In Canada it comes in monthly instalments depending on your income.

Well.....i think if the teens have to have it in installments so should everyone else. Its not fair to discriminate. Who says that the "older" people over 17 arnt just going to waste the money?

Fair enough installments - everyone should be subject to it.

I prefer the lump sum, because its going towards me buying this car on the weekend. If i didnt need the car, then that money would of went into a bank account with Olivers name on it.

Its up to the individual to be mature and responsible enough to use that money wisely

i'm going to buy all the baby stuff before I have the baby but one thing I do need is a new fridge! Mine is leaking gas!!!! I don't know if we will use the money or if we will save up for it! See how we go... Me and Leigh are pretty good savers..

Well me being a single mum, no child support etc i get all the maxium rates which quoted to me on Monday stand at
$730 a fortnight. So i dont understand why there are kids running around dirty half clothed that look like skin and bones

Maybe because there parents are junkie alcholic pokie addicts

I think they could give out vouchers so the money doesnt go toward smokes or grog at least.our baby bonus is going toward a deposit for a house.witch will be our kids one day.the only thing is that you get it after you have the baby and you dont want to be rushing around buying cots and stuff for the baby to sleep in after its born.

I get $251 a fortnight... I don't recievce any parent payment cos of what my partner earns.. They little amount i get goes on bills and baby stuff! lol... can't help myself!!

I hate it when people cry broke yet they always have smokes grog and brand name brand new clothes and shoes.but they have no money for food.wouldnt you buy cheaper clothes and get food as well.

Iam entitled to the minimum 120$ a fortnight because of what my partner earns.that will add up though.we are going to get it in one lump sum at tax time though.better than nothing.

The idea of giving the baby bonus in instalments was to stop teen pregnancies just to receive the money. I think it a great idea, it’s disgraceful to think that someone would want a baby just to receive $4000. In actual fact we were better off on the old system, when you work out the payments.

its 28.3 here at the moment

yeh it costs a lot more to raise a child than 4000$ and its really hard.Im coping but it is very emotional trying to care for someone so dependant on you.
