hehe. i just sent u an email ↑ |
its funny. whenever i post, ur the first one to answer it. cool ↑ |
I'll check it in a little bit!!!! ↑ |
i was just telling u that i had posted under this heading and that i am soooo sick today ↑ |
I am not feeling the best either. I have that really bad cough that drains all the energy out of you. ↑ |
my head is so stuffy. and it was already hurting anyway. i know im gonna end up having that stupid surgery. ↑ |
does anybody have any suggestions for at-home remedies for colds? i dont even have any cold medicine for the baby. ↑ |
mspeachpit you shouldn't really use many at home things for the baby. many at home stuff for adults has honey in it and that is a big no no with babies since it has bocholism in it. You can use a luke warm bath if her temp spikes, but I would go and get some baby motrin at least to make sure that the fever stays down. make sure that she gets plenty of fluids and that she is wetting her normal numbers of diapers each day so that you can detect dehydration. If she gets bad take her to the dr. ↑ |
ive heard about the botulism and honey in infants, but they say its ok to give it to them after 12 months. i just dont know what to do for her if she gets too stuffy and cant breathe, as i dont have one of those bulb aspirators to empty her nose. i do have some baby tylenol, though. does it really work to take them into the bathroom and run a hot shower just to let them breathe the steam? ive never tried it and heard it does but also heard it doesnt. anybody ever tried this? ↑ |
that will help with a dry cough and with croup you can take them outside when it is cool weather it helps them breath better, but it is still only a tempory solution. if her congestion keeps getting worse then she may need some meds or a nebulizer to break up the congestion. Just keep a close eye on her. Children often go from seemingly ok to very sick very quickly. If she is having trouble breathing then that is alway a sign of needing medical attention. ↑ |
she was sounding kinda congested last night, but not a whole lot today. u can look at her, though, and tell that she's sick. this is my first time having to deal with a sick baby, so thats why im asking all these questions. ↑ |
Hay that is why everyone is here. I am a paramedic so I can tell you that I am always the overly cautious one. I have seen lots of bad things that could have been prevented happen so I always say when in doubt go to a doctor. In all reality most children do fine with pleanty of liquids and some cold meds to relieve fever and congestion, but there are the select few who do not. You know your baby better then anyone so if you feel like she is comftorable aside form the fact that she has a runny nose and a slight fever then jsut give her lots of extra mommy love. If at anytime something scares you or makes you feel unsure it is never worth risking it. ↑ |
peach, I think the honey thing is until 2 ↑ |
i know they say that if they have symptoms of being sick, but they still act ok, then u shouldnt worry, but she's really acting sick. not wanting to do anything besides lay her head on my chest. ↑ |
ive always heard it was until they were a year old. ↑ |
well that is really common for sick children to do. Just make sure tha tshe is drinking lots of fluids even if she does not feel much like eating. Make sure that she is breathing ok and that her temp stays down. af onyone of these things stop being w/i normal limits then you should take her to the ER so that she can get the fluids she needs via IV ↑ |
jillw you are a paramedic?? I used to be an EMT-B/d. My liscense just expired in June. I didn't have a chance to get my C.E. hours done with the kids, so. Are you still active in EMS? ↑ |
is diarrhea normal in babies with colds? ↑ |
btw, she has been sleeping all morning for the past several days. she has been sleeping from 8:30 am to 2-2:30 pm straight. should i worry? ↑ |
I am also a firefighter so I work at my local fire station. we have a full time department, but it used to be just parttime sign up w/ on call volunteers to supplement. After they went full time they kept 2 night shifts open so that the non full timers could still sign up to work. So I used to work 2-3 nights a week from either 6pm-midnight or midnight -6am now shifts are less avaliable so I was only working about once a week or twice a month from 7pm-7am I love it because most of the time I get to sleep and still get paid :) Since I found out that I am pregnant though I have stopped signing up for shifts. I miss it, but it is too dangerous with a baby inside of me. ↑ |
taht is along time for her to go with out any fluids. I would wake her and try to get her to drink something ↑ |
i sure wish some of u ladies lived nearby. ↑ |
I just finished cleaning my daughter's bathroom, and boy am I glad that's done! I hate doing the bathrooms. :(
I know peach, wouldn't that be fun to all just go meet for lunch? It's too bad. I think Nicole is the closest one to me, she is in Washington State. ↑ |
