ethan had a hamster and she seemed healthy.just a bit ago she was acting funny so when i went to pick her up she bite at me,so finally i was able to get her and she was gasping for air i patted her gently on the back and just barely pressed on her chest a little and then she finally took a breath with noise and then bloody looking discharge came out of her nose and i sat her back in the cage and she died a few minutes later.ethan right there screaming at me to do something and i did all i could.she was at least 1-2 yrs old when we got her and we had her for close to 2 years.i feel so bad but i dont know what to do to make him feel better.i dont know if she got choked or she was just old and started having trouble breathing.she was just fine yesterday and today so i dont know what happened to her.

A hamsters life span is about 2 years or so, very short, that is just the way it is. I am sorry, poor Ethan. Sorry he had to see it. When he is ready get him a new pet.

It sounds like it had a respiratory infection. In small animals such as rats, gerbils and hamsters a respiratory infection if not noticed is fatal. The usual cause for infection is the bedding.
