I am 35, and just recently was diagnosed with add. As a child I was definitely hyperactive but an A & B student, so I went undiagnosed. I got introuble for talking excessively and had to write sstandards and spoke out of turn, but guess what talking out of turn and speaking your mind definitely creates an individual with a strong sense of self. I always fogot to do homework until the period before it was due, so just make sure you have a homework calendar for your kid to keep track . If they don't write it down they will forget in like two seconds. As an adult I hated strattera, whcih dulled my personality but helped with a structured interpretation for processing information. Ritalin gave me headaches and made me more scattered. Adhd has not stopped me from pursuing dreams and being successful. Stop with all the medication. Try a gluten or yeast free diet, make sure they get lots of omega 3's folic acid & vitamin B, keep them off the sugar and carbs that turn to sugar, and caffeine like sodas. Let them pursue what they take interest in. Your best bet is to help them with structured physical activities, art classes, ballet classes, arts and crafts, teach them to take good notes, and reinforce cleaning and being neat. Adhd is not the end of the world just a window into a more creative one. I am very creative and constantly have a bunch of ideas going on at once, but I have learned to focus. if you want to medicate in high school go ahead especially when teenagers are learning to drive because I got into tons of fender benders because I was not paying attention. Regulate good spending habits and just teach them good coping skills to help them grow into responsible adults.

My 8 year old....."Yes, she is hyper!" Can I handle her? Well yes I can! I'm sorry the teachers are only trained these days to teach the majority and not the individual. Isn't that there job? The last time I checked, I do believe, so. My 8 year old is brilliant, the things this kid knows blows my mind. The teachers insist that she has ADD....recommend counseling, doctors, med's....YOU NAME IT, since kindergarten! Anything, but fine tuning there teaching skills for the individual student.
I Commend you parents who are looking for other alternatives than these recommended Schedule 2 Drugs for our babies.

For those of you who are new to your research, did you know that one of the side effects to these "medications" is death? Who knows if these drugs are contributors to the all time high of infertility or kidney, liver, and heart disease? High school students deaths?

For the parents who have all ready started your children on these drugs....do you understand, what ever dose they might require now, their body will build up a tolerance to, and that will just continuously need fed! Our children just need to be children and our teachers just need to be teachers.
Maybe, if so many children were not all ready doped out of their mind in class, my child wouldn't stand out so much. She's the only one with a personality and not on drugs to make her a work horse.
I always laugh when we get the anti-drug flyers from school.....anti-drug my a** they are the biggest drug pushers of all! And Society wonders why so many people have drug problems....it all starts somewhere.

My ranting comes from complete frustration, this is my baby they want to dope up....well this mother says over my dead body!!

At night and when he comes home from school he gets one stress j, and one focus attention. Hope this helps.
