My son will be 4 in a couple of month s. He was diagnosed ADHD when he was just 3 with question as to if he may infact be bi polar. It has been an emotionaly draining experience and I still question myself everyday if meds. are the right thing for him. He tried stretarra which made him even more agressive, the aderral which caused a reaction with his ezema and now he is on 27mgs of concerta. He is so emotional most of the time it just kills me. Anyone else having these issues?

Hello mar22, some signs that we were told to look for that could indicate bi polar are extreme emotional outbusrsts that can last for 30mins or longer when just simply told no, agression, moody first thing in am, extreme craving for carbs and sweets, mood swings from completely illated to severe anger or emotion in a matter of minutes. These are just a few and it is hard in such young children to seperate ADHD from bi polar so med changes are frequent and play therapy is a good idea and if that all fails child psycologist will step in. We are nearing the referal to the psycologist and it is a scary emotional adventure but we have to figure out our little boy and try to find the right help for him. I still question every med. and try to explain evey one of his action and reactions as being normal for his age even though we have been told by profesionals otherwise. I work with developmentaly disabled adults and it is so hard to see that your child could actually be on the spectrum of that sort of care some day when at birth all parts were in place and test for gentic disabilities came up negative.
