When you say "real mom" who do you mean? You or the woman who gave birth? In my books, you would be the real mom because you raised him. Regardless, he's likely to be confused or not understand the concept when he's young but as he gets older he'll know who "Real Mom" and "Biological Mom" are. ↑ |
Proceed cautiously and have everything in writing as to how this "open adoption" is going to proceed. ↑ |
My husband I also plan on going through an open adoption. Open adoptions work for many diferent people in many different states. At the end of the day you are your childs real mom but when the time is right your child needs to know that you and your spouse found a very special person that was able to give birth to your child because for whatever reason your child wasn't able to grow in your tummy ↑ |
Open adoption is even more *wonderful* than we imagined. We were scared at first (I had the same fears as you), but it turns out that everything progresses so *naturally* and it is really beautiful, truly! We have an extremely open relationship with Ava's birth mommy... we spent Thanksgiving with her extended family, in fact, and will spend a week with them this year too! There are many books on open adoption... these really helped me. If you want to chat, email me at [email protected]
