Anyone have any experience or information regarding Step-Parent adoption. My ex husband is considering allowing my current husband to adopt my two youngest sons. My kids are 4 and 3 and their father has not been involved in 2 years, phsically, emotionally, or financially. My kids call my current husband "Daddy". We don't have the money to hire an attorney so we will be doing this ourselves. My ex is a shady person so I'm looking for advice or things to watch for.

I would seek out free legal aid if I were you especially with a shady exe. If you are near any major universities or law schools you may be able to get free or very low cost legal aid.

Get a lawyer. Pay them by the week until it is paid then they can file after it is paid. Get his consent and you can do this before it is paid. But it has to be written just right for your state to be legal so don't rely on home papers.
