If you do not have a lover in your life currently and are getting up in life, I would say go for it. It would be good to know your best friends opinion on child rearing, religion, punishment, and if you are planning to pretend to be a straight couple to the public (which may be best for the child) or be more open and honest (which could come when the child is older).
I know of 2 cases of what you are talking about. #1. Was my cousin's BF. The day he left for college his Mom's Best Friend moved into the house (female) and his Dad moved to LA where the company he worked for had an office. 3 years later his Dad died from complication from the AIDs virus. He basically found out that his parent's life was a lie at his Dad's fineral. #2. My good friend (who is gay) and his gay lover's sister decided to have a baby since she was 35 and single.
