I POSTED THIS YESTERDAY AND GOT NO RESPONSE SO I FIGURED I'D POST IT AGAIN....

HELLO.. I HAVE A 2 1/2 YR OLD DAUGHTER THAT HAS BEEN GOING TO THERAPY FOR 6 MONTHS FOR A SPEECH DELAY... JUST LAST WEEK SHE WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING MILD AUTISM. WE ARE STATIONED OVERSEAS SO THE TIME DIFFERENCE IS TOUGH AS FAR AS CHATTING. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS FAR AS LEARNING MATERIAL SUCH AS BOOKS, CD'S ,VIDEO'S ECT...? I DID FIND THIS REI THERAPY CD BUT THEY WANTED 450 USD FOR IT... I WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH HER HERE AT HOME AS WELL AS THE SPEECH , BEHAVIORL AND OT THEREAPY SHE IS ALREADY GETTING EACH WEEK.. I NEED TO FIND SOMETHING THAT SHE ENJOYS BESIDES MOVIES. SHE REALLY COULD WATCH THEM ALL DAY IF I LET HER. SHE DOES LOVE BEING OUTSIDE BUT IT RAINS A LOT HERE AND I NEED TO HAVE A BACK UP PLAN. Check out ebay for inexpensive(new) resources there are cd roms with thousands of photos under lots of different categories. google"bumblebee" these are dvds with lots of vocab and children filmed showing what the word means eg -tickle lick eat laugh play etc.there is classical music in the background which the kids seem to enjoy. I paid about $90.00 Aus. for 3 at different levels
I also access traditional childrens sites which are great for familiar images-winnie the pooh. disney and the like, and are great for teaching colours , matching, numbers. My 4 year old autistic son was independently using the computer by 3 so you may be surprised at your own daughters ability. Anything that is visual and interactive will help, As for books there are any number of excellent resources on book sites-some of these sites offer 2nd hand books at a discount price. good luck

Hi, I would try to get some picture flash cards and give rewards when she participates in naming the objects. My children both have/had autistic behavior and my older son is doing great with the ABEKA Christian curriculum (I am using it for homeschool). Make sure that when your child gets into school, if you are not getting good progress, CHANGE TEACHING METHODS! This is sooo important. My son went to a public school (Kindergarten) and they were trying to make him do language exercises before they would allow him to read, it wasn't working! We placed him in a private school the next year and he learned more language by reading!! Isn't that weird? Every child is unique, the ABEKA curriculum worked for us. I hope you find what works. gluten free casin free diet. repitition helps. picture boards so she can point to things and sign language. we use these things with all our 6 grand kid including the autistic one. ↑
