I have a 5 yr old son who was in diapers until he was 4yrs 10months...he did all the same things I have read about here. He knew what that potty was for, sat there for periods of time, did nothing. As soon as I put a diaper on, he "went".

Well, I read on super nanny that some kids like privacy, so one day, instead of leaving the door open and trying to get him to go, I actually told him to "push it", showed him by pressing his tummy how to "push it" and closed the door...AMAZINGLY enough, he went.

When he came out, I started singing and dancing like a rap song I made up...please don't laugh, it worked! haha

"I push it, I push it, PUSH, PUSH, I push it"...all while pressing my stomach...he immediately did the same thing and literally, later that same day, he went again, by himself and came out singing the song...everytime he went for the next few weeks he would tell me "I push it" before he would go into the bathroom and close the door...and then, he'd come out singing the song...it was cute.

So, if it helps anyone, good luck...I know how frustrating it was for me to hear so many people with smart remarks of "he's still in diapers???"
