Hi mspeach,
Because you as her mom have a feeling that "something is different"- you are right to be concerned even if nothing is wrong ; I would have her pediatrician look at her and go from there. Also, check out the babycenter.com development area, all kids are different, developing at their own pace.

another thing she does is she will sit there and hit herself in the head. my mother says she's doing it for attention but she does it when she's playing by herself and not paying attention to anyone else at all. she has been labelled developmentally delayed, but still somethings just not right.

mspeach,
i am sorry that its difficult because I know it is. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a physician to reach the Dx of Autism because it is such a broad spectrum of symptoms. Whatever it is they decide, know that there is so much more help available now to intervene at a much earlier age and teachers/schools can be better prepared to immerse her in a program suited to her needs. I wish you the best to you and your little girl. I have a 19yr old with Autism and if I had to sum up the whole of this 'experience' it would be: he has enlightened not only my mind but my life! I have learned so much about people and the fragile state of life in general. It is a journey of giving, receiving and learning. He is a gift from Heaven...:)

My daughter had a few words early and then lost them. She is 5 1/2 and has autism. I would recommend having her checked by a specialist because early intervention is key. Especially for things like dietary and other treatments, the earlier the better. My daughter now talks, but it has been a process. She lost all ability to understand what we were saying. Through GF/CF diet and other things she was able to progress etc. We delayed having her diagnosed even though she was still diagnosed at 24 months of age. But I wish we had gone in earlier and seen a specialist rather than regular dr. who is more in tune with the symptoms. Everything I have read lists any kind of loss of words as a red flag. The eye contact was just different and when we took out the dairy it improved within days. I know it's tough to do some of these things like the diet etc, but it is equally tough to deal with the symptoms each day. One word of encouragement though, the fact that she had some words is a very good sign. But something is definitely going on. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Oh boy.... what you shared sounds like our son. After the 12 mos. vaccines he oh so gradually slipped into autism. He lost most of his speech and what little he did say sounded like he had had a stroke. He developed worse autism symptoms as well. He has been healing over time. Check into the cod liver oil and Dr. Yasko. Also probiotics and cilantro.

liver oil really helps.... not only the autistic brain but it also will boost any person's immune system. The healing is gradual. My son, has been healing gradually from ASD with CLO and other supps. There;s more Dr. Megson info on the web. Also check out Dr. Yasko at www.holistichealth.com. Love, Jack's Mom
