i am a one on one with a 6 yr old that hits me when ever. we think he might be bored but that doesnt make him stop. we have tried timout, ignoring him and the behavior, not talking, restrainging him, removing me, and a few other things. i have a bag of sensory stuff that yes he does like but he hauled off and hit me yesterday when he was using the bag contents. this is the teachers first year with autism-she had been with emotion disturbed, she has no idea what to do. some folks from the county are supposed to come. i hope they come fast cause i am falling apart. any suggestions????????

Is this child verbal or non-verbal? My son is 12 and I am just now learning about writing social stories. Even very high functioning children can understand words and even sentences, but not the concept until that is presented visually through a story about the problem and situation. Let me know if you need more information on this. It really does seem to help.

eric is 6 yrs old. he can speak. some of it is prompted. he has been down to the kennedy institute but he doesnt go there regularly.
i dont know about social stories. but we use pecs. maybe we could use a picture of no hitting.

i think u should talk to the parents about getting a in home worker to come in everyday to do programming routine is a big part of an autistic childs life and yes the pecs with NO HITTING on them work

Try a book called when my worries get to big and then look at a book called 5 point scale. Maybe your son just needs learn ways to let you know i feel.......... When we know what they need we can help. I is hard when we as paernts have to guess.
