I am almost 34 weeks along in my pregnancy. My question is: When do I start to pump milk?
After the milk is pumped do you freeze it? And how long does it stay good for?

baby06,

I never pumped before the baby was born.

After is another story, but there is no need to pump before.
Is someone telling you there is?

baby06,

In a nut shell:
Breastmilk is good for up to 10 hours at room temperature (unless it has been already refridgerated or frozen, then it needs to be used right away after being brought back to room temp).
It is good for a week in the refridgerator.
Freezing, it is good for 3 months or so in a regular freezer, 6 months in a deep freeze.

I almost always used glass bottles to freeze breast milk in, it offers the best insulation and protection.

Here is a La Leche League site that will answer all of your questions. http://www.lalecheleague.

I hope you find it helpful.
I have refered to their website, and called on their expertise countless times. And even though I never joined any of their groups, I have called the local group leaders and they were always happy to take my call and give support when I needed it.

Post again if you have any more questions. I'll be happy to answer whatever I can.

oh i dont know how long it last but you can start to pump 5 days after your baby is born or when ever you start to produce the milk...its only colostrum for the first days, so after that, its safe.

You can pump colostrom also, as long as you feed it to your baby his/her first few days. The colostrom is designed to give your baby the best possible start with some wonderful immunities needed those first few days.
