my baby girl is 12 weeks old and im breast feeding...and well, ive been feeling ill and i thought it was the stomach flu, but when my husband started throwing up for no reason he told me he thought i was pregnant. and not having a period also scared both of us. im not on birth control but we did use protection. i took a test last night and it was a digital one...it said"not pregnant" but i took the stick out and it had a VERY faint second line on it. so i took one again this morning and it was a little bit darker, but it still said"not pregnant" i dont know...do you think im pregnant?

no the digital tests do not work like the regular tests, if you call the phone number on the back they will tell you to ignore the lines. the test is read by comparing the intensity of the lines not the presence of 2. and if your husband was throwing up it was obviously a viral thing, if you are exclusivly BF your period may not come back for a while and you sais you used protection so why are worried

Hello Amanda,

Although it is possible that you can become pregnant at this time, it is statistically unlikely if you are breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding releases certain hormones that will delay ovulation. Most women will not get their periods for many months, even over a year, depending on how strong they breastfeed. Yet on the other hand I know of a breastfeeding woman who did get pregnant 1 month after her child was born. But that is extremely unusual. I only state that to make sure you do not depend solely on breastfeeding to delay ovulation, unless you are willing to take the slight risk of pregnancy.

I recommend that you check into a natural form of family planning at this time, like the Creighton Method or Billings Method, to help you in understanding where your body's fertility is at. By daily mucous checks, you are able to identify the signs of fertility, and know when intercourse can result in pregnancy.

Breastfeeding is a wonderful thing, but it limits our choices in artificial birth control. However natural family planning methods like Creighton or Billings (not to be mistaken with the old outdated "Rhythm method" which is not effective), does not interfere with our breastfeeding our babies. And when done right, have a 99.5% effectiveness rate in prevention of pregnancy, if that is what one desires. This effectiveness rate is equal to, if not greater then, the effectiveness of the Pill.

On the flip side, one can also use the same method with a high success rate of becoming pregnant if that is what one desires.
So you see, in understanding your fertility with these methods of family planning, you are truly in complete control.

The following website will give you more information on the Creighton method if you wish to read more about this option. It is not my site, but I like how the information is easy to understand. http://www.reedsrx.com/women/nfp.htm

If you decide you would like to speak to someone about this method, this website will direct you to someone in your area. http://www.fertilitycare.org/

You have my congratulations on your new daughter, and I wish you well in your family choices.

they usaually say the line is dark when you are pregnant. After a certain amount of tome another line sometimes appears.
